when i thought i possibly had a problem with my a/c at one point during this past very hot summer, i think it was more a problem with the fan (& yes, i've changed all the filters).
can someone check this with their 2010 or other element & let me know if their fan works the same way? when i turn the fan on (at least these days), i really cannot detect any airflow until the fan gets over to the point right over the little icon (fan icon or whatever). it takes about 3+ 'clicks' until you're at that spot i think - maybe more. to me, when you start turning on the fan (for heat or whatever), you should start feeling a little airflow at the first click; however, i really cannot detect anything until a few clicks over - & then no serious airflow until a couple clicks after that point... anyone? thanks! |

Mine's a 2005 and has been like that since new. I personally think the venting to the interior is too big, so the air flow seems less. Also there's a lot of airspace in the cab of the E so that could effect ventilation.

well i was talking about the flow you can feel when putting your hand right in front of the vent, too...
but it looks like it might be similar to others? |

When was the last time that you changed the cabin filters?
If those pleated paper filters get clogged, airflow through the vents drops significantly, A/C and heater won't deliver anywhere near their capacity, even though they'll produce a lot of noise. Mine was apparently plugged by debris when I took delivery in March 2004. I didn't discover for more than a year that I didn't have to have drive for a 1/2 hour or more to not have cold feet in the winter, or sweat with the windows open in the summer Last edited by psschmied; 12-13-2012 at 11:37 AM. |

He said that he had changed the filters. My 03 also does that. I turn the knob all the way to the right and then turn it back a little. Its been that way since I bought the E.

i changed all the filters in september, & they were barely dirty even then. so it has nothing to do with the filters.
the reason i'm questioning a lot of things right now is due to the fact that my warranty ends at the end of february ('13). |

Maybe you have some nasty heat and evap coils. Get in there and take a look at the coils themselves. You can have the cleanest filters in the world. Doesn't make a difference if the coils are already dirty.

would these have gotten nasty in 3 years? |

If you ran without a cabin filter for a while, sure. All the gunk you see on the filter during a filter change would have ended up in the heating and cooling coils.
