03 with 220k miles
Brand new to E's and love the idea of owning one. A friend has earned her Mary Kay car and is willing to deal an 03 EX 4WD with 220k miles for $4k. I am having a hard time justifying buying a vehicle with this many miles. Is this a solid price that I should jump on or keep looking?
Thanks for any advice, as I learn more, I will try to help you in return. Thanks!! Last edited by JBart16; 01-23-2013 at 02:09 PM. |

From my experience, there seems to be a floor for how cheap E's go for these days....most of them with around 200k I've seen are around the 5.5k to 6.5k. To find any E under 5k is somewhat uncommon.
Anyway, can't tell you if it's a super good deal or not, because that depends on the condition of course, but hope this helps! |

Regardless of the trim they are uncommon to find under 5k from my shopping experience this last year. You just have to decide if you are okay with the higher mileage and DX trim. There are tons of E's out there. If you look long enough, you'll eventually find what you are looking for for the right price.

I just picked up an EX with all the options, 4wd, roof rack, side steps, etc for 58 hundred. It has 175k on it but its is in excellent condition. I am very happy with it.

service records and a list of any and all parts that have been replaced inside and outside of warranty is a huge factor in a higher mileage E. Important here is also the records for the transmission fluid changes. Any fluids outside of the basic oil change are always over looked by the common driver. Its not until something goes wrong those fluids are looked into. A good mechanic cant give advice unless the car is in front of them.
The E is one of the most reliable and well built vehicles sold to the public in the past decade. Id suggest spending a good day on this forum reading threads to get all the answers you may have questioned and others you havent thought or know of. |

JBart16, I would check KBB and Edmunds to get a used vehicle quote to see how it compares. I had the same concerns when we bought our 2005 Element EX with 114000. It runs great and I'm keeping up with maintenance. I love this vehicle. I recently had to use my auto repair company's loaner car which is a 2004 E a d it has 370514 miles on it, and it was still running great. I hope this helps you out.

I'm floored by how much E's go for in my area..even the ones that are listed at obscenely high prices are snatched up for the asking price. Driving down the road the progression of cars goes like this: Element, Subaru, Pickup....REPEAT.
