You guys know, the truly sad part is there are so many that need help. Not just dogs, or cats, or any other animal. It bothers all of us who try and help, knowing there just simply isn't enough money, time, or volunteering that one can to to offset enough of the injustices. Sadly, we have to pick and chose what we help, when, and how often.
Regardless of how well one plans it out, there is never enough to go around. Believe me I've tried many times. Volunteering at local churches, soup kitchens, youth groups, salvation army, and on and on... The toughest part of helping is coming smack dab against one's own limitations. The realization that one simply can't help is devastating the first time it
"smacks you up side the head."
We can only do so much, and that's pretty much it... as harsh as it sounds, it's reality. I'm not saying to
'pick your passion' and ignore everything else, far from it.
"Picking one's passion" is a wonderful thing, but one can't
'put the blinders on' and ignore everything else going on. There has to be balance.
What good is helping an animal, when that takes away from feeding or clothing a small child? How is that humane? Yet at the same time, how anyone can turn away from a starving animal is beyond me. So yea, I know all to well the pitfalls of trying to save the world.
I wish I knew the answer, the best I can offer is to go with your heart, help those that you can, and help make others aware of the ones you can't. Between us all, we can make this a better place.
That said, I highly recommend
Samaritans' Purse as a charity that goes above and beyond the call on a routine basis. Although I don't give as much or as often as I should to these folks - I do what I can, when I can.
At the same time, there are so many good reasons to donate money and time all around us, just because we have our
'favorite' charity, don't overlook the homeless mother trying to get her life together, or the war veteran trying to do the same. Maybe the friend that is trying to gather up some money to help defeat that dreaded cancer that has robbed so many from us... I could go on and on but lets all just remember, between us all, we truly can make this a better world.
