I got excited about coloring my panels black with Forever Black after reading some posts from early August. At the time, no downsides were mentioned (though I notice some recent posts give a better warning about the nature of Forever Black). I though I'd share what I learned...
1. Forever Black will not withstand a handheld car wash pressure hose (like those found at self-serve car washes).
2. The applicator built into the bottle does not do the best job of applying the product. It will come out stripey and take much longer than pouring the liquid into a try and using a brush, rag, or foam sponge. (I'm a fan of the rag, rubbing it on like a stain.)
3. You will need to apply at *least* two coats, 3-4 is better.
4. Forever Black takes better on very hard exterior plastics (such as the door handles and plastic alongside the roof) and not as well on the plastic body panels.
Forever Black definitely looks cool, but I'm disappointed at the performance so far. I'm not sure I would do it again because I feel like I'm watching it so closely. If it continues to bomb I'll scrub down everything and just do spray paint (a black spray paint intended for bumpers that I picked up at the auto parts store has been weathering very well...)
