Hi all. I have a 2005 Element, 5 spd manual transmission, 37,000 miles. 4 days ago I heard a clunking sound coming from the front. It sounded almost like something was stuck under there and hitting when I drove. After determining that wasn't the problem, I changed out BOTH front CV joints. Still had the problem. Okay, more detective work now.
Finally after checking many things, I began to look at the transmission. Low and behold, I opened it up and there was the large gear on the differential assembly with pieces of teeth missing! They are actually broken off!
This car is not quite 3 years old yet and has just 37,000 miles on it. I'm guessing this should not happen? Anyone had this happen to them?
My dealer is not giving me any satisfaction since the car is past the 36mo/36K mi warranty point (just barely!) They won't even give me an answer as to what they might be able to do for me until they see the car - which means I'd have to have it towed there!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
