Does anyone have any information on an external spare tire carrier? I would like to place a full size spare on a matching alloy wheel on the rear end. Thanks
Just realize that doing this is going to block the license plate and prevent you from opening the tailgate unless you can find some sort of swing-mount. When I feel the need to carry more than one spare, I put it up on the roof rack in the Yakima Load Warrior basket I have - more out of the way and easy to lock in place so it doesn't get stolen. I suppose a bit more of a pain to get it up and down but I'm hoping it's there's "just in case" and I don't need to mess with it anyway.
I appreciate the ideas. I guess it's time to break the MIG out. I believe it will have to be something that folds down. I'll post pics. when I'm through.
I went back and forth in the design and decided to leave room below the tire for the license plate. I may end up changing it but I'm happy with it so far. Two of the lugs are in backwards to go inside a small safe for security. I'm looking forward to using the spare tire well for storage, tools, jumpercables etc.

Thanks so much for this! I was looking for something similar to buy because I wanted to use the space tire space as storage room as well. Is the mechanism secure when you drive?
