I like the wheels but thats just another generic SUV with a different name brand logo on the grill. Its sad that an auto maker cancels something out of the ordinary then continues to pump out sheeple mobiles.
FYI: that photo was also published in a Canadian newspaper and may represent the 2012 Canadian version of the CR-V. I wonder how different the US version would be?
I just put several accessories on my wife's 2008 CR-V to "freshen it up" rather than trade it in. I hate to say this, but I think I made a good investment.

The photo originated from American Honda. The CRV's we get up here in Canada are almost identical to the US CRV's. This is a very thinly disguised concept vehicle.
Sorry if I come off as a dick with this topic but I do design and fabrication as part of my job. In this case were talking the future of automobiles, but in reality there is no future unless chances are taken and pushed. Playing it safe is not progress, its regression.
I think it looks like a smaller version of a bloated minivan. They seem to have lost the "aggressive" look of the small SUVs of a few years ago. The CR-V is a great car, but, like previously stated, too mainstream to attract Element type buyers. I understand you don't want to change your bread and butter too much to please a relatively small crowd, but, to make it look like a mini-ish version of your minivan??!! :-( :-( :|
It looks like Honda at least tried a little to get rid of some of the worst complaints about the old look by reshaping those ugly rear windows a little, but they've added even more of the body side creases and the cough drop front end...
But what I'm really staring at is the way I'm not seeing any pictures of the back end. That was the final straw that broke the Crosstour and from what you could see here, I can't see if they've done it again. From that angle, it's got the rear shape of another Pontiac Aztec.
Man you folks are tough on Honda. The past 10 years brought the Element, Crosstour, CR-Z, Ridgeline, S2000 C/R, and the Fit. If you Go Big Red there was the Rune and currently the Fury and DN-01. I would hardly call these vehicles bland. Each vehicle has a place in the market, unfortunately for the Element that place wasn't in buyer's driveways. Money talks and the sheeple bet their money on the CR-V.
Now to really upset the readers here, I love the new Ody. Respect the Van! I also like Honda's lineup. I really like how Honda followed the retro craze among the Big 3 and introduced the CR-Z. A retro vehicle that isn't a gas guzzler, what a concept, although IMO it would probably sell better as an Si.
Anyway my wife and I like the new CR-V and we will probably trade in the 08 for one. This time we're getting one with a moon roof. A power moon roof. ;-)

Element - discontinued after bungled management.
Crosstour - Maybe the worst mistake Honda has ever made.
CR-Z - One ugly little vehicle, but not quite as bad as the Crosstour.
Ridgeline - The Honda that pretends to be a truck.
S2000 - the "mid life crisis" Honda.
Fit - death trap on a budget.
Odyssey - intensely screwed up version of the original.
I wouldn't call anything that Honda makes - bland. They try way too hard.
I don't mind the look of the new CRV; it's definitely bolder than the previous generation. The Ridgeline Sport also looks nice, but I am not liking the new grill on the 2012 Pilot.
Honda is Honda; you pay a bit more for reliability and they are definitely better on making quality and long-lasting & reliable products than they are at making new and exciting styling.
Agreed. I like the new CR-V. Looks to be more upscale and sporty at the same time.
And I love the Ridgeline Sport. If gas was cheap, I'd love a Ridgeline.
Interesting to see a view of the backside. It looks vaguely like the rear contour of an Aztek but at least they didn't go with the split glass.
When I bought my Element in '08, if they'd left the old CR-V body style alone, I'd have bought one of those but the new body was a deal breaker all by itself.
We just bought a 2011 CRV for my wife to drive. She loves our Element, but the manual seat adjustment (especially the height) on it is difficult for her.
We've had the E and the 08 CRV in the family for a while now. Two things that bug me with the 08 V, the steering wheel spokes don't agree with me, and the front seats are too hard.
I like the look of the new design on the 2012, but just now making the payoff on the E, and 2 more years of payments on the CRV, it will be a while before anything else new lives in our garage.
I've got to say that after watching the video, I haven't changed my mind about Honda's current trend toward ugly - but it was interesting that he mentioned how the new model has an electrically controlled all-wheel-drive system.
How is it an improvement? It's just something different than they've been using. I haven't seen the specs to see if the new model gives you control of the AWD like's used in the Pilot or it still acts like the current system. We have both a Pilot and an Element and I much prefer the E's handling to the way the Pilot acts on Winter roads. Just changing something is no reason to say it's better or worse unless you're just trying to shill the product.
"It's NEW and IMPROVED! You need to buy one right away!"
As far as the rest of it? The rear still has the same Aztec rear silhouette if a bit less angular (less interior space than it could've gotten), the rear sides still make me puke, the rest of the sides are covered in ridges and dents that are for me a total turn-off, the front isn't too bad but nothing exciting either, and just like all the other new models, the interior is so squashed in that I'd feel claustrophobic if I had to sit in there for any length of time - just like the last version of the CR-V that I said "NO THANKS!" to at the dealer when I bought my Element.
Another problem I have with this (and ALL Hondas) is that they force you to pay for expensive radios and other options that I don't want and won't use. SMS texting now? Voice or keypad makes no difference because they're still serious distractions from what you're supposed to be doing while driving - namely DRIVING. There was a recent episode of Top-Gear on BBC America that said it very well. The host was busy trying to get the best fuel economy that he could on a lengthy road trip and he said something like "It takes concentration and constant attention to your driving and the way the other drivers on the road are doing to maintain the highest economy - and if everyone drove like that, there wouldn't be very many accidents.
I just saw the 2012 CR-V today at my dealer. Everything looked just like the pictures except for the side steps. I found it interesting how the steps function only for rear passengers. I brought side steps for my E to help my mom get in and out of the car, but discovered they are useless for that purpose. I wonder 1) how effective the new CR-V steps will be, and 2) would they fit on my E? I'm going to visit the dealer again next weekend and take some measurements.
My mom almost got the 2012 CR-V but then she found out its being made overseas and she figured repairs would take longer so she got the new 2012 pilot instead when she traded her fit in and then a week later they got me my element
Most CRV's for the US market are built in Ohio. When Alliston Ontario starts 2012 production in January all CRV's for north amerca will be built here.
Even if the CRV came from Japan getting repairs done would not take any longer than your Element (built on the same line as the CRV).
