I'm in...

I just reserved site #102 from the Friday to the Sunday. I should arrive in the early afternoon and leave by noon Sunday. Looking forward to't.

I would also like to do a Cachuma run and see if Colin at Bobcack in Lompoc could barrel taste us again sometime over the next two months. Allyson awaits the outcome of our fiance visa application from her winery in British Columbia - we should have the word by Valentine's. She won't be able to join us for a Bobcack visit before then.

Great to hear Ric.
This is starting to turn into one of those Epic Camping Fools Event not to be missed.

Has anyone started one of those Campsite Maps showing where Element Owners are located ?
Free Man E is the go to guy for making those maps.
But I have a list of who's in each site.

102 - Ric
103 - Free_Man_E
104 - Miss Ellie & Co.
105 - Faheyd
106 - Motel _E
107 - Jet
108 - Burtch
109 - Mels_E

Site # 101 and 110 are available.

I meant Jewish people and the people who care about them mostly who might be perusing this site thinking about joining, like one of my managers at work who just bought an E. Like I said, Auschwitz jokes are never funny.

When is the itinerary of events to be announced? We want to know about the trip not the hate crimes that better not show on the Club trip.
We're still wurkin on a itinerary.
However; there's a standard slew of splendid activities that we do every year that you're sure to enjoy..

* Beatty, Nevada for cheap gas, and a gamblin casino to throw money at.
Home of the Death Valley Nuthouse, one of the biggest candy stores you ever did see.

* On the way back from Beatty is Rhyolite Ghost Town ( a must stop)
* Titus Canyon: a one-way, 26 mile, gravel, auto tour road that cuts through the mountains and back into the heart of Death Valley.

Back at camp we're planning for a group feed Omelet Bar and Pot Luck Dinner.
We'll also be doing a Gag Gift Exchange

* In the works is a hike up 11,000 ft. Telescope Peak. (weather permitting)

Yeah Aliaoby! Glad to see you up for this.

Tickets: as you call them are actually campsite reservations which are available by contacting either of the following links..

1-877-444-6777 or http://www.recreation.gov

The quick and easiest way is to call the "877" number or you can apply on line.
You'll be wanting a campsite reservation for the Furnace Creek Campground at Death Valley National Park.

The available campsite numbers closest to others in our group are as follows.
110-112-74-75

Good to have you on board. :cheerleader:

Thought I would check in at EOC for the first time in a while. Been busy working. Glad to see you guys are going to DV again. Don't like to see all the PC crap going on.

Two opinions after reading the whole thread.

Dylan is one of the best people I have met. If you know him you know why he smokes.

I loved the pics from burning man, especially the Barbies. This is about art, people. We don't know what statement they were making. Don't be so quick to judge.

Good news. This guy will be working at the resort while you are there.

Tree Forest Adventure Recreation Plant

He was a big help to me when I could not find Half Dome last month.

Mountainous landforms Mountain Ridge Mountaineering Summit

I will give him the dates and he might stop by with some firewood for you.

There are also showers at the resort you can sneak into if you know where they are. Gene does, but he'd rather roll in dust like a squirrel.

Finally, Mel, it was a blast camping with you at Yosemite. Word to the wise, however. Our girl loves to shop. I almost had to drag her out of the stores in Yosemite Village. Something to remember if you go camping with her.

Dave, did you get the stove to work? Inquiring minds want to know.

I have no clue where I will be during your time there. I know that I am heading out on Saturday for volunteer work at Palomar Mountain State Park for two days, followed by a few more days of campsite photos in that area.

Hopefully I can fit DV in my schedule. But as Scott says, some of us won't know until just before. So I hope peeps are OK with sharing sites.

Oh, and John, I've come up with a new taco recipe.

Hot sauce Drink Bottle Sauces Condiment

Hope you like them!

Don't forget what this is all about. Hanging with friends and going...

Edit: If you happen to live in the Palomar Mountain area, just show up on Saturday and mention you are with the Park Champions crowd. You will get a free night in the group site. I will be providing tacos, beef not lizard, and after a bit of work (4 hours) the next day a tasty lunch will be provided. Lizards.

This was from earlier this year in March. Not much snow on Telescope but the Ranger said that this was very rare for this time of year. Looking to yer left would be Badwater Basin (-200ft) Straight ahead Telescope 11K ft above sea level. Lets hope that the snow is equal or less than this when we go. If it is any higher than this cramp ons (snow shoes with spikes) and trekking poles are a must!!

Look like this is developing into a great trip! I look at this trip as the start of the new years camping adventures!

John, it will be fun to meet your Aunt, I have heard great things about her! Excellent that she can come.

Greg, that was fun in Yosemite, I am going to make that a regular trip (after the crowds leave). And for the record, I like only like shopping that has camping or nature stuff (so yes I loved the stores there)! I have a direct line to Amazon for everything else (just about) but also a gold star shopper at REI. LOL

Glen, it is to bad I missed you by a few hours in Yosemite. We will have to do something next year with Greg.

Yes. The Gag Gift Exchange is a "prerequiste must" at all of these camping gigs.
Please be sure to bring one or you'll miss out on all the crazy fun!

The Taco Bar is happening for certain and will be incorperated as a Pot Luck Group Dinner. Which means everyone will be contributing something.

What we have in mind is a full table spread of Taco's and fixins.
Anything goes: Tacos of all sorts are invited to attend. Carne Asada, Chicken, Pork, Ground Beef, Stir Fried Lizards etc.
Salsas of varying styles and toxicity factors will be represented too. (everyone has a family salsa recipe they like to make)
Cheeses of many varities will be on hand to accompany the handmade tortillas, gaucamoles, chips, wicked and mild hot sauces, veggies and anything else people might like to stuff in a taco.
Expect to see a few bottles of fine sipping tequila and plenty of cold cervezas for liabations.

People have three months to prepare for this.
Heck - I wish we could do this tomorrow... I wanna go camping!

In Death Valley at lest there are no Bears.

I was in Tahoe in October just down about about 10 miles from where we all have camped in the past as a group. It was at Fallen Lake (great place to camp by the way but no group camping) and we had Bears in camp. Of course they only came into the campsite that folks ignored the Bear warnings. There was food out and folks did not put coolers in the food lockers. The Bears opened up the coolers really easy.

Here is a interesting Bear story - a bear got trapped in a nice new car.

Ok so some bad news for the trip. I have to have hip surgery on a torn labrum in my left hip. They have to go in and attach anchors to the bone to keep the labrum sealed to the femur....i know weird doc talk. This is taking place on 15 Jan and recovery time is 4-6 months!! SO unfortunately I can not be the hiking guide or attend the hike to Telescope Peak if the weather is nice. Ive done it before and it is a killer hike with amazing views. I will however not be denied this camping trip. I will be there but i might be a tad bit handicapped. I have to be on crutches for a month so it'll be cutting close but I will be there no doubt.

#118 · (Edited)
Dang that sucks about your hip problem. I broke my foot last summer and know recoverey takes awhile. But fear not.
Should you decide to go (crutches or not) there's still a ton of cool stuff to do at DV that won't require hiking but I'm sure you already know that.

My advise: Some hydro-therapy at the Furnace Creek spring fed -heated swimming pool to relax and kick back.
I use it ever time we go to DV.

#128 ·
The next time I'm in DV, I'm going to have a lot of wheel time. I HAVE to make it to the warm springs. I also want to go to the Geologists cabin and gaze at the nearby butte. And don't forget the Eureka dunes up north!

There's so much to see and do in DV, but you've got to cover a lot of ground to see it all!
I wanna go to all those places too!
You're so right about covering alot of ground to see it all.

This year we'll take the Jeep and leave Miss Ellie at home.
It means we won't be able to take as much gear but we can go off road.

Happy 2013 !! :cheerleader:

At last check the "new and improved" campground at Furnace Creek has 5 Drive-In campites and 20 Walk-In sites still available for the week end of Feb 21.
So if you're interseted in coming along, camping out and exploring this extrodinary desert enviornment with a posse of Elements,
you should be quick and grab yourself a site while you still can.

Yeah buddy!

Are you still scheduled for that brain surgey on your Hip?
Jan 15th.. right?

Don't worry bout being gimpy or needing to use crutches.
Expect to find yourself getting a lot of attention from people wanting to assit you.

In fact, we have "real live" medical professionals in this crew.
They performed exemplary work on me when I shredded my shin in a backwards "end over" bicycle dump at Humboldt a few years back.
I'll tell you how it happened when I see you.

(and just wait till you see the scar - it's become my offical EOC Camping Fool tattoo)
