Hey guys - Since coming down from the mountain. 5600 ft above sea level. I used to get 345/350 per 14 gallons. Now I am only getting 250 per 14 gallons. Any ideas why?
Higher altitude means less dense air. This will reduce wind resistance which has a significant affect on highway MPG. Less dense air (high altitude) will also reduce the throttling loss on the intake which will give better MPG.
I've often wondered with the low quality of winter gas if switching to 89 or 91 would have any impact on mileage, but have never been motivated enough to try it for a month or so and record the results to find out...
low quality gas is always a bad thing.
low octane gas actually has more energy/gallon than high octane gas.
so, don't confuse octane with quality.
you can get low quality high octane gas and high quality low octane gas.
I have tried many times to boost winter gas MPG , no luck. But have seen major improvements comparing crap 87 vs. using top tier gas. They have more additives which boost the mpg.
