Another modular platform with seating

I apologize for not introducing myself earlier. I'm much more of a lurker than anything.

After many hours of perusing this site, I finally made my own platform. Thanks to everyone for posting their builds. They were really helpful in thinking about my own design so I thought I would share it. I'm pretty short, so I really only needed to go to the rear of the front seats, but I'm pretty sure it could be modified with extensions.

It's a very light modular platform built primarily from 1x3 and 2x2 wood and screwed together. It is basically two benches. One of them has interlocking slats so it can extend across the width of the back but can also allow for seating. The whole thing can stack behind the seats (if I ever end up putting them back in the car).

Cute little set up. And very different than most. Let us know how it goes when using it.

Thanks, AmyH. I really like your design and considered building something like it. You definitely made me realize that i wanted a place to put my feet down and sit. My next project is to build a table that swivels, but I haven't worked out the details yet.

I took the E on a 500 mile trip right after we built it. We like it a lot and is pretty comfortable. We even ended up sleeping until 930 at a rest stop with reflectix window covers. The dog loved being able to stretch out and relax. I'll be driving it across the country at the end of the week so that's where the real test will happen.

I really like this. Like everyone else, I've been soaking up all the platform ideas and will, someday, build one with *just* the right combo for me.

This comes close with the half platform mode. I always like to see the alternating slat method used-- clever, light, and strong.

If you are looking for a table that swivels, look at rv supply parts online. That is where I found my table leg and cups. My table swivels or I can pull it off the pole/leg and mount in another directions. About $40 online. I think there might be some parts at ikea too that can be used creatively.

Thanks for the suggestion, @AmyH. I'll check it out.

Thanks @BoxyButGood. It took me over a year to finally get around to building something that worked for me, but I'm glad I finally got around to it. Good luck on your design and post pictures when you figure it out.

Hey, really awesome set up! I was considering building something similar and I had found a plan for something similar, but for an RV. Originally I had it saved for a teardrop camper that I someday hope to own.

If you don't mind sharing your build plan, I would love to see the instructions.

I am thinking of doing the same design is it possible for you to post measurments?;-)
I built a similar set-up, based on this design.
I have measurements in the thread.

One unexpected item I didn't prepare for was the gap from the seats back (driving position) and forward (camping position), luckily the two coolers we use fit in this space which provides a base for the mattress.

Good luck, there is a bit to learn from each set-up.
