Must See Console!!!

This cost about $25 at Wal Mart. I removed the outer shell to reduce the width, trimed the plastic that was on the side (that was used to keep the outer shell straight) so the e-brake would clear and put 4 screws in the bottom. This fits and looks great! The top slides open and has a huge storage area that is secured with a lock, 4 drink holders, storage on top and in the very back. It does not look strange with the shell off at all.

One more pic of how to clear for the e-brake.

Re: Must See Console!!!

Wow, great job! This is almost exactly what I was looking for. I would like to construct some sort of base around this (but still leave room for the e-brake, of course) to finish it off. But from what it looks like, I might not have to do that. Where did you attach the screws? And how sturdy is it?

It looks great with your interior...

#EDIT#

I did just notice that you had it shifted somewhat to the right (when looking at it from the backseats) because of the armrest on the drivers seat. How much does that get in the way? I have armrests on both sides so this might not work for me afterall...

Re: Must See Console!!!

The screws went straight down into the factory console. It is pretty sturdy but I would never let a 250 lb girlfriend sit on it. Then again I wouldn't want a 250 lb g/f!

Be sure to put 6 screws in it -- go inside the closed storage area and put them along the side, 2 front, 2 mid and 2 as close to the back as you can get.

So, any other comments? Like? Dislike? Suggestions?

Oh, and it really doesn't get in the way. You can use the e-brake even though it is close to the console, it's not very difficult to pull it up or release it. If you have 2 arm rest you may have to try and remove that top storage tray that is one piece with the rear drink holders -- I have not really looked at doing that.

Re: Must See Console!!!

Yeah, the pass can use it as an arm rest. It seems like it may be a little low but I have not sat in the pass seat and tried it. I'll try it and let you know.

GOD bless

Re: Must See Console!!!

Looks nice. Does anybody know of any which simply cover the factory console? I never use the e-brake. I'd love to just cover the whole shebang with something reasonably factory-like.

Please do not take this as a challenge to your way of living, but...

IT"S AN E-BRAKE!

The "E" by the way is for EMERGENCY.

As an illustration:
Pilot to Co-Pilot: "Hey could we get rid of the parachutes, I don't use them anyways."

Also, it is illegal or rather causes your car to not be street legal to remove, or make inaccessible the emergency brake.

Now mind you after having said all that, in an effort to make more room for a console in my '81 Chevette I hack sawed the e-brake arm. I guess I'm smarter/more responsible now, at least for my family’s sake.
