Thumbs up Got my 2006 EX-P Black E today.

I love it when a plan comes together. Getting divorce needed to sell the 2003 Silverado 1500HD crew cab which was costing 7 gallons of gas a day to drive to work. Saw a review in the Everett Herald car section about a month ago, checked consumer reports...it had a recommended rating. Visited two dealers drove a stick and an automatic. Checked out this ownersclub and found a very happy group of owners so I decided to get one. The problem was the low trade-in the honda dealers both offered only $13K for the truck. I put the truck up for sale privately got much more, much faster than I thought, was considering renting a car until the 2006 E's were available. Called the local honda dealer Monday to get an idea if I should get a monthly rental and they said they just rolled a 06 EX-P off the truck. I handed the truck keys to the buyer this morning and an hour later drove off with the 2006 EX-P AWD AT. The black EX-P makes this look like a completely different vehicle than the 05 EX, not as utilitarian in nature, but very nice. Stereo is great. I used COSTCO car purchase plan, signed up on thier web site and they sent an Email to Klein Honda in Everett. The agreed upon price for the 2005 EX 4WD AT was invoice plus $500. Decided to wait for an 2006, they came in before anyone had decided on the COSTCO price, usually for a new car they go Invoice plus $800 or $1000 if the car is in demand. The sales manager agreed immediately to do the invoice + 500 and I am very happy with the process. I contacted the other dealer in the area who also got a 2006 EX-P AWD AT on monday but in Silver, thier "no hassle" price was MSRP minus $500. A lot of painful typical car dealing got them down another $250 but I couldn't see spending that much more, as long as it isn't red or orange I don't care about the color enough to pay more for it.

Great car, like the new wheels, the steering wheel controls are nice (that is what I was waiting for) . My 15 year old son says the E is "gay". How "Gay" will be seen on Monday, I usually drop him at school on the way to work, if he wants off at the bus stop instead he may be serious.

Re: Got my 2006 EX-P Black E today.

I think you did okay on the price. In June, I paid invoice minus $300 on an '05, near the year's end on the model, so getting invoice plus $500 on a car at the beginning of the year's model, especially the top end, sounds pretty good. I have a feeling that the EX-P models are going to be a fairly hot demand car this year. A word of warning, though, about price and this forum. I have doubts about some of the deals some people say they either got, or have discovered, around here. I remember some posts suggesting prices of a few thousand less than I paid for my E. Not believable. At first, I felt bad, wondered if I'd been ripped off, but then realized that I paid right around what others paid (those that were accurately describing what they paid). Some paid a little less, some paid a little more.

Congratulations on the E. I went from a long line of VW passenger cars to my E, and have always hated my wife's truck (Isuzu Rodeo), but have discovered that driving the E is somewhere between a car and a truck. You, coming from the other side (downsizing) will find a more comfortable ride, better handling, and plenty of cabin room for yourself, although I imagine you may miss the off-road capacity of your truck, and the hauling capacity (if those are features which were important to you).

I'm averaging about 24 mpg doing about 70% highway miles, and driving a bit less aggressively than what I used to do in my Jettas and Passat. Not bad for a vehicle than can load 25 bags of landscape mulch, with enough room to spare for some grocery shopping too.

Black is the best color for customization. Power coat the rims to red and you will have the HOTTEST E on EOC!

Re: Got my 2006 EX-P Black E today.

Just curious, but how much was "invoice" from the Costco program? Reason I ask is because I went through the Costco when I helped my mom buy her Civic, but their "invoice" was different from the normal invoice you'd find on other sites. I ended up getting a better price by just emailing a few dealers myself.

Re: Got my 2006 EX-P Black E today.

Sorry about the pictures it was rainy and dark by the time I got home, here are a couple pics I took this morning along with a redacted copy of the sales document to verify my price. I may have posted a duplicate message also, very embarrasing for a guy who runs big networks:

The COSTCO invoice price sheet at the dealer had the same invoice price as I've seen every where else on the internet $21,177. Then a column for the markup, most cars were +$500, I think the S2000 was higher and I think they may have had the Hybrids up a little more.

I have some other photos I took this morning showing close ups of the painted panels some people were concerned about the texture, and there is a difference in the reflection, but not really noticable.
