I have had a not so pleasant experience with this radio code thing; I was not provided the code with the car from CarMax. This experience may provide some insight to help resolve the issues with your E.

Well I pulled my battery to install a CAI. And unfortunately I (too) don't have the code for my radio; so I took the registration into Honda and they said that they can't provide me the code from the VIN #; they can only cut keys using the VIN. To add insult to injury; they quoted me 100 bux to pull the stereo and provide me the code. Needless to say I think this is totally ridiculous; so I'm taking the car back to CarMax tommorrow to have them pull the stereo and give me the serial # off the back of the stereo so that I can have choons again. Although this experience has given me the chance to truly apprieciate the new agressive sound of my E; so I guess it's not all bad.

I have seen 2003 Element radios on ebay pretty cheap ($50). Just buy one that has the code. Compared to the price of the car, it's not so bad.
Or go with an aftermarket unit.

This doesn't help with the original problem for the car in Sweden but on the some Honda radios they are supposed to show the serial# on the radio display.

It doesn't work on all of them but on the ones that do:

Turn the Key to On (II) and turn the radio on.
Make sure it says COdE on the display.
Turn the radio off
Press and Hold the 1 and 6 preset button then turn the radio on.
The display should switch between two displays.
One will have U and 4 numbers and the other will have L and 4 numbers. The 4 numbers after the U are the first 4 digits and the ones after the L are the last 4.

don't know if the Element radios do that or which ones do it though. Also it only works on ones that are displaying COdE, it won't work with an operational radio.

Know the code?

ok; I tried what Trevor suggested. (Thanks Trevor!!) and the stereo displayed all 8 digits. I'm assuming this is the serial #. I'll call the dealer tommorrow to confirm. also I was unable to find the code in the fusebox under the hood. I'll definately follow-up tommorrow and let you know of my findings. Thanks again for all the help; you all have just saved me alot of frustration. Sorry about my intial confusion about the code/serial #. This should DEF be in the FAQs. :)

Some security code. If I went to steal a car would they hand me the keys?:-?

Yeah; I was actually kinda suprised that they gave me the code over the phone. I really expected them to ask me to come in to verify that I did in fact own the vehicle. This is the same Dealership that wanted to charge me 100 bux to provide me that info; talk about hot and cold. ** WTF???**

Thanks again everyone; you saved me an unneeded trip to CarMax. I hope this also helps out Jerki with his car/radio issues as well; I'd imagine it would as his E is US made. Outpost stated that this info has been added to the FAQs.

Come on guys do you think someone would really steal the factory radio? Maybe an Alpine or Eclipse, but if I was a thief I would pass on the E's radio.

 I like my radio just fine but you are so right. It's like getting a car alarm for a Caviler. (My daughter has one).:D

On my way to my car in beautiful  Venice, CA I saw a newer Civic coupe with NY plates that had its passenger window completely broken and BOTH the stereo and HVAC controls ripped out of it dash. I'll assume that the stereo was stock since the civic looked completley stock. It was NOT a pretty site.

Never underestimate the power of Tyrone Biggums needing his Redballs (Chapelle's show reference)...
