Seattle Bonfire Ban - Campfires next?
A dangerous precedent. Junebug and other Washington staters... this is a slippery slope!
If there were a credible reason -- fire hazard, pollution -- but global warming? What a farce. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/...ml?source=mypi Mike Urban / P-I Robert Drucker (not shown), of the Sunset Hill Community Association, says of bonfires, such as this at Golden Gardens being enjoyed several years ago: "It's a longstanding tradition. I think people would be upset to see it go." Beach bonfires may be banned They fuel global warming, parks department says By KERY MURAKAMI P-I REPORTER Even with the skies overcast and threatening rain, Khang Nguyen, 18, and Joel Juan, 19, kicked back after school at Alki Beach. "It's just a relaxing way to hang out with friends," Nguyen said of the bonfire crackling in front of them one evening earlier this week. But Seattle Parks and Recreation might do what even this week's chilly weather couldn't -- douse the long tradition of beach bonfires at Alki and at Golden Gardens. Park department staff is recommending reducing bonfires at the two beaches this summer and possibly banning them altogether next year. The park board will hear the recommendation Thursday, and the city plans to run public-service announcements and hand out brochures later this month about the effects of bonfires on global warming. |

It never ceases to amaze me at the stupidity that comes from local government... it's only out done by state and national government....
Next I think they will ban groups of 10 or more from assembling together - you know all the heat radiated from the bodies can't be good for the ozone layer....

I'm speechless.
There are soooo many things I want to say, but just can't form the words... It's just not worth caring about anymore. It wouldn't be so bad if they were elected officials, but Park Staff! Remind me not to go to State Parks in that State anymore. They obviously don't want the business...

This is what happens when lawmakers get bored.
I thought it was in relation to fire hazard or something... Seriously, if they feel so bad about burning wood (technically carbon neutral btw) then why don't they spend their energy converting the millions of homes in third world contries to solar. Excess is one thing. IMHO beach fires at Alki are not.:-? It's no wonder that there are some that have a problem with others kissing at SAFECO. Too much pent up energy.

What's camping without a campfire?

Fires in Seattle
Well, since it never stops raining up here, and it is always fricking cold at the beach anyway, who wants to camp there. Let 'em keep it.
I mean you would need at least a cubic yard or two of wood to get anything decent going in the cruddy cold Pac NW drizzle. And then would you really want to sit out in the rain to "enjoy" it? BTW. Excuse my sour mood. I am supposed to be camping in Washington this weekend, but now they are predicting rain each day. I'm sitting here with the "shall I go or not go?" thing running thru my head.
