How to install the eBay HID Projectors

These are the projector lenses from eBay seller Hiking1978 several people have installed already.

I will have a complete detailed write-up soon.

For now, here is a slideshow with captions. More pics will be added.

I am soooo gonna do this now when I get more $$$

Will I still be able to use a regular halogen bulb if I do not get HIDs right away?

I was a little concerned when I saw the picture of the hole for the bulb when you said that larger bulb would not fit

More install info...

The current cost is $114.98 for the projector lenses and $45.98 for the ballasts. The price keeps dropping over time too, so it may get even cheaper!! The projector lens kit has the bulbs and all the wiring you need, minus the ballasts. His kit looks like every other plug-and-play HID kit on the market with the exception that this kit comes with projector lenses. It is all no name Chinese stuff and though it does not feel like the best quality stuff out there, I felt confident enough to install it.

The sellers name is Hiking1978 and his store is called Xeaz. He has thousands of things for sale so search the store for “Projector Len” (spelled just like that). For the ballasts, search for “Spare Ballast”. You need two normal (non-slim) 35watt ones. The items are shipped from Shanghai, China and took about 10 days to arrive.

Total cost of $160.96. Not bad considering you will have some pretty unique looking lights that kick out a ton of light, plus the added bling of halos. They will flash on and off with the OEM remote. You do need to purchase heavy duty zip ties, and I recommend a better sealant than the one provided, but I don’t know the best kind or brand. Also get some 16 gauge wire too, 15’ feet is more than enough. There are a lot of products that remove sealant but I was worried about damaging the headlight plastic so I went without using it but for me the hardest part of the mod was getting the two headlight pieces back together and I bet that removing the old sealant would have made a lot less painful.

Tools you need:
Flathead screwdriver (a good sized wide one)
Ratchet with 6” extension
8mm and 10mm sockets.
A tool for stripping and cutting wire. Are they called wire strippers?
Electrical tape.
12” zip ties.
Any size hammer.
An oven, a cookie sheet, and a wet towel.
And maybe if you are a wuss like me, some gloves for touching the headlight after it comes out of the oven.

Admittedly, I am completely inept at automobile modification, so this probably took me longer than it would take you. I went very slow to make sure everything was right. The provided instructions are pretty vague but the wiring process is fairly self explanatory, even for someone like me. I got everything working with the headlights sitting on milk crates in about 10 hours with breaks here and there. The next morning I put everything back together and that took an hour or so.

No you will not. The projector uses an H2C bulb. The kit comes with 6000k HID bulbs already installed though.

It's hard to take photographs of the actual color of the bulbs because my camera adjusts to make it white. At night, they look pretty white but it's obvious they are blue. They look way better than any other HID kit I have seen though. Lots of people have retro fitted HID's here in SoCal, and most look very ghetto.

One thing I have noticed is that although you get a lot more light output, it appears that there is much less contrast in what is being illuminated. I plan to get 5000K or even 4300K bulbs to correct that.

Be sure to get the right bulbs

Just discovered something about the bulb used in the projector.
It does not use an H4 bulb, the H4 connection is further down the line and irrelevant. This setup uses a D2C bulb.
So anyone looking for a replacement bulb, you should purchase a D2C bulb.
The photo below shows a that you can also use a D2R and D2S bulb too.

The bulbs ship already installed in the projector so there no work on your part. I pulled one out just to have a look and found this
I straightened it out and even though the white piece is broken it works. The other bulb is the one with the yellow spot.
