The ignition switch has an immoblizer unit attached to it that needs to be reprogrammed to your keys.

You will need to get it to a dealer for programming.

Thread title changed. Just "Help!!!!" isn't informative. I also see that Lizzurd deleted a duplicate thread. One thread per topic is the rule here.

Not sure if this will work on the E but ive had luck with it when moving vehicles with replaced ignitions before. Tape the old key onto the new key so the end is as close as possible to the steering column. The transponder signal needs to be read to start the vehicle.

It wont work. The code stored in the key has to match the code in the immobilizer unit (receiver) mounted on the ignition switch. A new unit will not have a code stored in it.

Other than towing it to a dealer for programming the only option is to swap the old immobilizer unit onto the new ignition switch.

My 03 element is having the same problem and needs the ignition, key and immobilizer assy replaced. Deler quoted me around $600 to replace and reprogram. Currently leaving spare key in the ignition all the time which works but nervous about that. Does anyone know the part number or part numbers of what needs to be replaced? I thought of trying salvage yards but want to make sure I get everything I need before taking it to the dealer to do the install. Thanks.

Your dealer will install owner-supplied used parts?
