Just got back from skiing in CO/ UT and living out of the element. Here are some photos of the platform we used. It held skis, boots and poles below. Gear, clothes, food, cookware, etc for two people can fit above. And the middle section was for sleeping, which is tall enough to accomodate a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and the tallest section of the hips.

When the seats move up, a flap flips over (supported by a 4x4 wood block) providing about 6 feet to sleep. Then you can wake up in the morning and bring down the folding table and cook some breakfast while having your back against the driver/passenger seat.

Welcome, Mikem, great introduction!

Added to platform list.

Your design is very cool indeed. One suggestion, though: If the table extension had a folding brace on the bottom, you could dispense with the upper support and chain, and the table would fold flat against the upper platform when not in use.

how long did you live in there?
you're not claustrophobic, are you?

@rambler: i suppose a drop leg support might wound a sleeper. and the upright table might help keep stored stuff in the rear rather than up w/ the driver during an emergency stop. <grin>

@pizzachef: Yup, those little coleman lanterns are pretty sweet and we were actually warm enough with our -20 degree sleeping bags.

@ramblerdan: That is a good thought, but we really wanted something to hold our gear back while driving.

@nacranym: We mainly had couches to crash on, but I slept in there maybe ten times. And claustrophobia wasn't an issue because there was plenty of room from the waist up.

@murso: the side sleeping wasn't too bad- we designed it so there would be just enough room for side sleeping (see picture below)

Thanks for the feedback everyone, and heres a couple photos from the trip
