"Back when Volvo got its start, form and function came first
while style was a distant third. The square lines and box-like exterior
were breathtaking, in a choking, gasping-for-air kind of way.
So when Honda debuted the Element, I was nonetheless sick to
my stomach with nostalgic memories of decades gone by. I mean,
even Volvo has grown to be somewhat sporty, dare I say, and now
here comes tried-and-true Honda unveiling grandpa's ice box from
the '40s. I hope they didn't pay Bob the designer very much for
this work of art.
I digress.
The Element is much softer on the eyes than I lead on, due in
major part to the rubber fascia around the entire lower third
that couples nicely with the hint of body paint that can be seen,
here and there. The straightforward and, literally, straight-up
design seems to have never graced a wind tunnel and is every flying
insect's worst nightmare."
