SoCal Chapter Meets at 2008 Honda US Open of Surfing
On Saturday, June 26, 2008, Southern California Element Owners Club members were treated to a wonderful, sunny day at the US Open of Surfing in Hungtington Beach, California. Most would say that a sunny day on the beach would make for a good Saturday. Honda made sure that the EOC SoCal chapter got more than just a day at the beach.
Our day started early at a Big Lots in Huntington Beach where we assembled a large group of Element owners. For many, this was a reunion, but for others, this was their first opportunity to meet and experience what these meets are all about. After some mingling in the lot as we waited for everyone to arrive, our event coordinators began to distribute our parking passes and VIP arm bands. Shortly after that, we made our way in a caravan from the parking lot down Pacific Coast Highway to our reserved parking space on the beach. If you are not from Southern California, I should point out that Elements are all over the place. That being said, many could only stare as they saw the never-ending line of Honda Elements lined up one after another, making our way into the lots on the beach. It was quite a sight!
At the lot, we were greeted by some Honda reps and then officially welcomed by Issaac Gooden, Manager, Honda Events and Promotions and Tom McAllister ("T Mac"), Element Owners Club founder and community manager. It was great to see that the Honda reps were as excited about seeing so many Elements as the Element owners were about being at this event. But, little did we know that our day was just getting started.
From the lot, we slowly worked our way down the beach to our VIP suite. We enjoyed a nice lunch catered by California Pizza Kitchen as we spread out throughout our covered, but open-air VIP suite that overlooked the beach. So, let me paint this picture again: sunny day, free food/drink, VIP suite compliments of Honda and we are watching the US Open of Surfing. It was truly a beautiful day at a very popular event (about 400,000 in attendance that weekend).
Later that afternoon, we closed the day with a send-off in the parking lot. The event organizers once again spoiled us by giving us free Honda goodies as we departed. Needless to say, we drove away with fond memories and a smile on our face.
To our many friends at Honda, Element Owners Club says THANKS!
