EOC Attends 2006 North American International Auto Show Held In Detroit

The 2006 North American International Auto Show is now underway in Detroit, with the latest automobiles being displayed for all to see. The show consists of more than 700 vehicles on 700,000 square feet of space in the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit. At this year’s show, there are 36 vehicles on display that are new introductions to either the worldwide or U.S. market.

Sure, it was frigid outside, but the hot new concepts and introductory cars on the inside of the 2006 NAIAS had attendees rushing to get in the doors. Once inside, you didn’t know which way to turn first with all of the excitement of the new cars and trucks. We're estimating that 40,000 to 60,000 were there the day the show opened to the public on Saturday January 14.

The biggest crowds seemed to be hovered around the Super Chief concept truck from Ford and the Challenger from Dodge. The Super Chief; built on a Ford F-250 frame and powered by a Tri-Flex V10 that runs on hydrogen, E85 or gasoline and has a cruising range of 500 miles. The Challenger is powered by a.6.1 liter Hemi with 425 hp, 420 lb-ft of torque, and a six-speed manual transmission

While lighting effects, thumping music and handouts could be found just about anywhere at the show, Jeep may have kept some observers in their display area a bit longer due to an impressive water show and a climbing wall for kids. The water would shoot down from above, creating a variety of effects that could be seen from either side. In fact, this water show could even release water in such a way that it would spell out words that could be read from either side.

Through one entrance, attendees were met by Honda’s display, with the Ridgeline and Civic on proud display as winners of the North American Truck of the Year and the North American Car of the Year respectively. Inside their booth was a large crowd being entertained by various video displays and a transitional light show. In total, Honda displayed the following cars and trucks plus a watercraft:
