Can pull key out while gear in Neutral

Hello,

So my little brother had a incident where he thought he put the Element in the park and somehow managed to remove the key. Long story short, Element reversed down small hill and hit my other car. No damage (visually, and structurally other car had shock absorbs on the bumper support.

Anywho, noone believe him so we all went with our life, I am starting to believe him now.

Last few days I had starting issues. I would turn the key and it would sound like somethings sparking inside the steering wheel itself. I would hear some crackling/lightning sounds, sometimes it would start right up other times I would hear the sound and then it would start up. Sometimes I would while holding the brakes put the car in Neutral and it would do the above and then it starts up.

However, recently I noticed today when I was in neutral I for some reason thought of pulling the key out..................key came out..............

I heard odysseys had this problem.

Could just be the ignition key switch is worn out. You could pull the key out of my old 85 Cevy Cavalier while you were driving. Never did get that fixed as it worked otherwise as it was supposed to.

But is the starting the car an issue with the ignition also?
Is it the whole switch that's gone bad or can I do the wafer replacement (similar to door locks)?

Well as to the problem where I have to literally turn the key till it almost breaks to start the car, or sometimes i hear a click as the start barely gets the voltage. sound like if you touch the leads of a batter kind of click. Could be the ignition switch/cylinder?

Sounds like two problems, both ignition switch related. The bzzt noise from the steering column and certain key action rqd. to start is most probably covered in this thread https://www.elementownersclub.com/for...ad.php?t=65155. The part is cheap and fairly easy to replace. The key coming out in neutral sounds like an actual ignition lock/cylinder/wafer problem. Neither cheap nor easy alas. If a locksmith/dealer were doing it, they almost would replace both as a complete assembly. $$

don't know your skill level, but the mechanical and the electrical parts of the ignition switch are separable and the mechanical parts respond to usual locksmith type skills, such as replacing wafers.

Here is a walkthrough from the resident expert to give a general idea of what's involved if you haven't seen it already https://www.elementownersclub.com/for...507#post962507

Well I did the driver door lock fix, except I took it to the locksmith thats literally like 2 blocks away.
I saw that one of the wires for the door lock mechanism was not even in the connector. The metal contact for the wire isnt even on it. So it was just hanging there, that proves my driver door not responding to the key remote. Thankfully the door sensor open/close was fine.
I am having troubles with the door open/lock button. When I had the door panel off it would work but after plugging it in, the open button works while the lock one doesn't.

I believe there was a recall that fixes this. Check your TSB.
