  2. Problems & Issues
I just purchased my first Element. It's a 2004 EX used with relatively low mileage (160k) and excellent service history on the carfax. I bought the vehicle in a relatively snowless area of Colorado. Drove 5 hours back to where I live in snow country only to find out the front wheels spin like...

Hey there! First time posting so forgive me if I’m in the wrong section :) I’ve been searching far and wide for my first element and I think I’ve found a really good deal! The owner seems to have taken good care of it and has been more than willing to share all of the car’s history with me...

Apologies for cross-posting. edited to add photo I’m on the hunt for an E, and so I’ve been reading as much as I can find from various online groups. First, I’ll summarize what I’m looking for. Then, I’ll describe an E I’m looking at right now. Thanks in advance for comments, tips, and advice...
  5. Problems & Issues
I bought my 07 with manual transmission a couple years ago but the drought in California hasn't given me many chances to test out its real time 4WD capabilities. I've read post after post here saying that these cars are great performers in snow. We're in the middle of a proper winter here now...

  7. Maintenance and Service
My wife inherited her Mom's '03 E, AT 4WD model, 60K miles. It seemed last winter like the 4WD was working fine, but we just got our first snow here in the Northlands and the 4WD is clearly not working now. Does anyone have any advice as to the likely culprit? Aside from this and a weak...
  8. Tires, Wheels and Suspensions
So, I am searching craigslist for a set of rims and I came across this concern, being that this is my first wheel purchase for a 4WD, am I limited to certain rims or is there something specific for 4WD cars, so I can't buy just the normal 5 lug honda/acura import knockoff rims? Also, I know...
  9. Under The Hood / Performance
I just wanted to know what the differences between the Element & Pilot 4WD systems. Also, which system would be better in deeper snow? My street seems like it is always the last to get plowed & I am at the bottom of the hill. Poor me.:|

I am going to buy a used E. Debating the need for AWD. I live in northeast Indiana and snow and rain are not major players. I presently drive a GMC Enovy and have probably used the 4wd less then a dozen times. When I did use it, I probably should not have been out in the first place. On...

Converting from 2WD to 4WD Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a 2wd model to 4wd? With any other car I won't think so, but since the Element lacks any manual controls for the 4wd and since the 2wd and 4wd models are so close otherwise, maybe its possible. Also, what would be the...
  14. Shoppin' and Test Drivin'
Firs off, sorry if this is a re-post. Went looking, but did not find anything. I am sold on the EX, but I am not sure about the 2wd or 4wd. I have only test driven the 4wd. I live in Houston, TX, so NO SNOW, and no hills. The sun roof is a mixed blessing. it gets real hot here, so better...
  15. Under The Hood / Performance
Honda refers to the Element drive mechanism as a 4WD system yet many reviewers speak of it as an AWD. Actually Honda calls it a "Real Time 4-Wheel Drive" Is it really a 4WD system or AWD.? This came to mind as I just ordered one of the 4WD body emblems from HA. I started wondering if it...
  16. Shoppin' and Test Drivin'
I just purchased a 4WD EX. I noticed that, other than the window sticker (showing price etc) there is no marking whatsoever to designate a 4WD from a 2WD EX. You can not tell a 4WD from a 2WD by any different controls or markings inside the car either. And you certainly cannot tell one from...

As I understand it, the AWD system is totally automatic allowing no imput from the driver, unless he intentionally spins the front wheels which would engage the rears for the duration of the spin. Could one fool the system in some fashion so the AWD could be manually engaged at will?
