FS: 2005 Rally Red Element EX 4WD Auto $9800 I am selling this car because I have recently begun restoring classic cars and now need something that can tow a flatbed trailer. The car has been a great car and I am up to date with all maintenance. The car has a few hair scratches all over the...
  3. Replace 2 tires on AWD element?

    Tires, Wheels and Suspensions
I recently got a flat on one of my tires that could not be patched. I would like to avoid purchasing 4 new tires since the others have about 60% life remaining. Will it hurt the AWD system if I just purchase two new tires? Thanks!

  7. 2wd vs. 4 wd

    Under The Hood / Performance
I am going to buy a used E. Debating the need for AWD. I live in northeast Indiana and snow and rain are not major players. I presently drive a GMC Enovy and have probably used the 4wd less then a dozen times. When I did use it, I probably should not have been out in the first place. On...

  9. Calling all Colorado/Mountain E drivers

    Shoppin' and Test Drivin'
Hi all! I'm a first timer so apologies if I haven't posted this in the right section. I've just moved to Denver from London, England and have been in love with the Element for years. Since we don't get much snow in London, but we do in Colorado I've been reading up about the whole FWD v AWD...
  10. 4WD: Bad sound from rear differential

  11. Converting 2WD to 4WD (and vice-versa)

    Do-It-Yourself / Mods
Converting from 2WD to 4WD Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a 2wd model to 4wd? With any other car I won't think so, but since the Element lacks any manual controls for the 4wd and since the 2wd and 4wd models are so close otherwise, maybe its possible. Also, what would be the...
  12. 4WD, testing operation of

    Under The Hood / Performance
EX, 5 speed manual with on demand 4WD. Not sure how to tell if it is actually working or not. Maybe it is always on, or maybe it is never on. Any clues as to how yoy would tell if it really works without needing to be ina situation that would "make" it work?
  13. 4WD vs. AWD

    Under The Hood / Performance
Honda refers to the Element drive mechanism as a 4WD system yet many reviewers speak of it as an AWD. Actually Honda calls it a "Real Time 4-Wheel Drive" Is it really a 4WD system or AWD.? This came to mind as I just ordered one of the 4WD body emblems from HA. I started wondering if it...
  14. 4WD: Manual engagement?

    Do-It-Yourself / Mods
As I understand it, the AWD system is totally automatic allowing no imput from the driver, unless he intentionally spins the front wheels which would engage the rears for the duration of the spin. Could one fool the system in some fashion so the AWD could be manually engaged at will?
