Going to install a head unit and sub/amp. The installer claims on the sc that you can not remove the OEM head unit and replace it with an aftermarket without adding an amplifier for the OEM speakers. Another installer denys this. This has made me hesitant on doing the install. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Parts Im looking to install:

Eclipse 726
JL Audio 1000/1
2 x JL W6v2 12"

Thanks in advance

The OEM headunit is unamplified which means its outputs are "line level". There is an external amplifier behind the kick panel on the pasenger side up front which amplifies the signal from the HU and sends it to the speakers.

The bottom line is you can add any aftermarket HU as long as it has "line level" or RCA preamp outputs. You DO NOT WANT to run an amplified signal to the stock amp or you will make it very unhappy. Any quality aftermarket HU will have preamp outputs and you can even buy Metra harnesses which have the RCA connectors right on them.

Having said that, if you want a quality sound to come from your aftermarket speakers (you are replacing the stock speakers, right? Right? RIGHT?!?) you will need to replace the factory amp as well. You don't have to, but you should.

Is the installer telling you that this can't be done the one that's selling you the Eclipse HU? If so, don't buy from him. He's not qualified to sell that caliber of hardware.
