I've been searching the web for how i can install Cruise Control in my 2003 element but have found about ZERO help! I have read a few posts on here about the element using a vacuum type cruise but not sure if that's correct. Anybody figured out how to install cruise and/or where to buy the parts?

The LX or in your case DX model didn't come with some features and that one might be hard to do as the wiring goes through the steering wheel clockspring and unless it already has the wires in there for it it might be hard to install. I couldn't tell you if there is a differance in the wiring harness in between the 2 models.

i have an 04 LX and it didn't have CC. I've checked all around and found that all the parts from Honda will be about 250-300 dollars. Instead of buying the parts and trying it myself (i didn't want to become a Toyota) i went to the local window tint company that also installs CC. They don't offer the element CC parts like they do a civic but they have a universal kit that they install. You can see the kit by googling cruise control kits and using the sponsored links. My CC was installed professionally and is safe (i might have messed it up if i did it myself) Total cost was 400 including all parts and labor, took 1/2 a day.

My CC isn't a button or on the wheel like other E's i now have an extra stick on the steering column near the turn signal.

ElementFanatic thanks i'll have to check into that. Never really thought that places would offer installs like that. Do you know which brand or type you have installed?

2003 DX cruise control info HELP!!!

1) Does anyone know if the steering wheel is wired the same way in the EX and DX models for the CC, whether the vehicle came with it or not.
(I have an 03 DX.)

2) Has anyone tried to intall a steering wheel (whole or just the CC button circuit) into an E that did not originally have CC?

3) Is there a general and complete manual of all eletrical/repair/wiring information I can purchase?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

Want to install Cruise Control on 03 DX

1st, absolutely ~L O V E~ this site and am using loads of info gleaned from so many MacGuyvers. Thanks much to all of you. I can't wait to post pics of my own variations of mods as I complete them.

For now,
------------------------------------
--I want to install CC on my 03 DX.--
------------------------------------
--No one locally (Rochester, NY) will touch the install.
--I have found lots of GHparts (in-steering-wheel switches, whole steering wheels with the switches, cc regulator) and complete aftermarket kits [ http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/ez-catalog/X380183/0005/elem0305 ]

1) Does the throttle body need an extra pulley for the cc? (Beyond what the aftermarket kit comes with?)

2) Is there a complete electrical repair manual for the 03 Element? (Please reply with links if yes.)

ANY HELP APPRECIATED!

I wondered about cruise control when I bought my 03DX (new). However after taking a few long distance drives I found that I did not miss it. Given the seating position, I can place my foot on the gas in way that takes very little effort, and is easy to maintain for a long time.

So my opinion, after 7 yrs of ownership, is that adding CC is not worth the effort.

Mine was installed at a tinting/alarm shop. It is that exact model you have linked from the cc store. Simply love it, I always use it.

@Thanks Paulj, and I hear ya. I know its a personal preference. I've had my beloved E for over 2 yrs and I miss CC every single 100+mi trip I take through NY to PA. I often drive at night to avoid traffic and tend toward being heavy-footed, esp with few cars for reference.
I am now planning a 3000mi trek to CO & NM... It's time to add it for me.

@RamblerDan- C is for cookie. Thanks for the link. Sorry for multithreadin. Newbie.

@ElementFanatic- I cannot find ANYONE in this city to do the install. I've called 14 places! I am mystified at Honda's omission of it as a basic feature and the strange black hole of CC for the E info where elsewise there is a cornucopia??
May I ask how much you paid? A single speeding ticket in NY/PA is about $150, $300 if you pay a lawyer to get it reduced (stinkin racket!)
I figure if the install runs around $300 and prevents 1 tix/yr, I am at a clear benefit. (I seem to acquire them at about that rate....)
I will further try in surrounding cities. Would *really* rather not try to do it ourselves (me & the bf.)

I paid right at 400+tax. The funny thing is you mentioned exactly why i have my CC. I came from a tahoe with cc that i always used to a lexus with cc that i always used to a bmw with cc that i've always used (there's a pattern I know) Then I got my E with no CC. I found it very odd that I NEVER got a ticket until I had no CC and I came over/down a hill and a Texas Trooper clocked me at 76 in a 70 with "moderate" traffic when there was 1 other car on my side within 1/2 mile of me. He tore through the median and pulled me over and wrote me a ticket. I did not want this on my record at all so I chose Differed Judification (SP?) basically I bribes the state to forget about it in my eyes. I pay the ticket plus a little extra and it never leaves that county's office and goes away while im on 90 day probation in that county only on moving violations only. My ticket was a little over 270 plus the extra so it came up to something like 315. I saved money and got CC put in my car the next month and have used it ever since. I didn't wan tto do the job myself after asking the CC store how hard it was because I did not want to turn my Honda in a Toyota lol.

For me the 400 dollar investment will pay for itself many times over. Also I realized my MPG (touchy subject in the EOC) went up about 1-3 mpg since installing CC. Also I found my shop by typing into google Tint specialist with my area code, that and Cruise control with my area code. I cross referenced them to thin out my selection of bunk locations then started looking into the stores. The shop I chose is the same company that installs tint/accessories into Lexus of Austin, that with the full parking lot of nice cars every work day I figured they would be a good bet.

My foot seems to have a very subconcous idea of what feels right & what the vehicle enjoys cruising @, because im always finding myself going the same speed, but different for every vehicle ive owned.....my nissan sentra hatchback was 65-70, my 280zx with 3 dual carbs on the straight 6 was actually a whole gear down in 4th, but was still 80-85, my S10 was as close to bu not over 75 as possible, a charger i rented for a long road trip was insanely fast goin 95, & that unfortunate pairing of my foot & that charger ended up getting me banned from driving in oregon becaus i didnt pay the $600+ speeding ticket, & then it just endedup costing even more a couplee of years later when i tried to transfer my CA d/l to HI & was forced to clear that mess up 1st.

Almost surprisingly, my speed ends up being pretty high @ 80-85, & since mine does has lopro rims & tires, they must contribute to both that higher speed, as well as looking much more like a cop targer then say my S-10 was....that one i could pace another cars a few lanes over goin super fast, & without a doubt, was never even seen on that thing ....

Anyways, pretty much got the lowend 2003 4wd Dx model, & have upgraded it piece by piece the their most pricey version.....All except for the CC & stepsides (which will hopefully happen this summer......

Anyone recommend a good/better variant to the oem ones? Or iz stock ones betta.....

Oh yeah, anyone boguht & used the trnt attatchment for the element? Cause i really really want it, but it really truly better be the pimp ****, & want confirmation for the price their asking

Biggest comfort gain of adding a CC in your car is not so much the foot, but the reduction on eye strain and tension from keeping track of your speed. without it, you have to keep taking your eyes away from the road to focus on the gauges for seconds at the time instead of setting and forgetting, while you enjoy the drive.

I have installed at least 3 units to cars that did not come with it. Worth the cost (about $100) every time.

They are compact, self contained units that are quite easy to lnstall. they are made for DIY an have adjustments for acceleration and response time.

If you set it right, It can be smoother than a OEM unit.

I realize this is an old revived thread, but just sharing my experience.

I bought my 2003 in the early months of 2012 and the first thing I did was have a Rostra aftermarket cruise control installed. It cost me about $400, and I don't care what anyone says... it is worth every penny!

The install was very clean and works exactly as I hoped it would. I'll attach a picture of the small cruise control lever that is located just below the turn signal lever.
