2008 XM Reception with Gobi Rack

So I got a Gobi roof rack about a year ago and I love it. The only problem is that my XM reception has been much poorer since then.

Since the XM antenna is the base and not the mast, does anyone have any idea what I can do to improve reception?

Most of the threads here refer to replacing the stock antenna, but I'm pretty sure that isn't going to help me out in this case.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

try moving the stock antenna?

I installed an aftermarket in mine using the hidden antenna method and routed it up the passenger side, stopped it about 8 inches from the front roof rack mount.

I've loaded it up on top and still had reception, maybe its just in a bad placement?

Obviously you need to sell the Gobi rack ASAP. I'll help you by providing myself as the buyer...but only because I'm such a giver.

(The relo to the front area of the vehicle seems a good option otherwise as posted above. Check out the aux or hidden XM antenna kits.)
i dont think the hidden antenna thing will work here as you need to get it on top of the gobi rack most likely... you may need to purchase a different antenna and place it on top of the rack, most of them are magnetic so you should be good to go there. Although, i am not sure if the reciever unit has the same sort of antenna plug as the aftermarket units, that would be worth checking out.
Hidden Method

Okay I'll look around for an aftermarket and look into the hidden method. That way the stock one can stay in place and just be disconnected.

I'll report back with pics/findings.

I'm interested in this... my gobi rack killed off the XM radio reception as well. I don't really use XM all that much, but I'd still like better reception when I feel like listening.
