I've seen posts regarding lurching when the auto drops down to first when coming to a stop. What I'm getting is a little different.

I have to wait until the tranny drops into first on it's own (3 - 5 mph) before I start to accelerate or else I get a lurching downshift to first. It actually will make you move forward in the seat. Downshifts at other times are no different.

I'm out of warranty at this point and it's not a huge deal, but it's quite annoying. When slowing down, I have to always wait 'til I feel the last downshift to first - almost at a stop - before I touch the gas. If I "force" it to downshift before the point where it would automatically, it responds with a neck-snapping drop to first.

Any thoughts?

How many miles? Have you ever changed the fluid?
26k... No, I have not changed the fluid. Do you think that is a symptom of old fluid?

I would change the fluid also. Its easy enough.
And you are not out of warranty.

You are correct. Thanks for the reminder!

According to the shop manual, excessive "shock" on a 2 -1 downshift (or any shift) could indicate shift servo issues. I guess it may end up with a trip to the dealer... Thanks.
