My wife is out of town with my key in her purse, i have a second key that is grey. It will start the E, but have never run it that long with it. What i am gettin at is, if it starts the thing it should be chipped correct? I just dont want to get to the store and it wont start agian. The reason i am up in the air about it is that i put a new ingition in my aunts buick and the new key cranked the car and ran it for a short while then ......... flatline. mine is a 07

When you say it doesn't run very long do you mean it will run for a few seconds and shut off? If that is the case the immobilezer isn't recognizing the key.

Mine will do the same thing with the spare i keep in my wallet. Did you buy the E new or used? Either there is a problem with the key (not very likely) or someone cut a new valet key and never had it programmed.

When i started my e with the other key it cranked and ran fine, but i only moved it around the yard then parked it. The one that quit was the buick i worked on. What im trying to figure out is If my key wasent programed would it even start the car, or will it stat and run for X amount of time then quit. Got it used so no idea about it, it is a honda key

A key that hasn't been programmed will start the E. As is said in my previous post mine will start and run for a few secnds and the shut off. If it starts and stays running you will not have to worry about it shutting off on you.

grey key is the valet key. Works like the other keys except it won't work on the glove box or rear hatch.
