I just bought a set of two model #4210-WHP6 six LED lights
from superbrightleds.com and they work great. I had to bend
the mounting tabs a bit because the outside diameter is smaller,
but the old lamps should still fit. There two to three times brighter
than the OEM lamps. And there like having a daylight 7,000K
compact fluorescent Light for a dome light.

Here is the link to the info. about this lamp.

By the way K stands for Kelvin, a measurement of color temperature.
See this site for more info. on color temp.

Another nice thing I forgot to mention about these lamps, is that they
use less current that the OEM's. Only 165mA as compared to the OEM's
833mA. And that's X2 if you have both front and rear lights on.
To compare there brightness, if you have seen the light output
of a 1W Luxeon led flashlight, each of the six leds on this lamp
have about the same light output.

Also about the LED lamps, there are no polarization markings. If
it doesen't work the first time, reverse it in the socket. Try
not to operate in reverse. I don't know if this will hurt it, but
the LEDs have a switching regulator that can be dammaged.
One of mine didn't work @ first, so I reversed it and it worked
fine.
A switching regulator in the circuit is a good thing. It makes
them run cooler and more efficient.

Given that one you bought was a hair too thin on the connectors, would this one also work...

4211 LED Festoon bulb
42x11mm (1.653 inches long)12 VDC Festoon Base Bulb with 6 LEDS
Select LED Color (Red, Amber, White, Blue, Green, UV/Blacklight)
$ 1.95

It looks to be the same length, but 1mm thicker.
It's alot cheaper and can be had in several different colors.

I've had the double row blue festoon LED bulb in my E for a few months now. I love it - even for blue its very bright. Picked that one up from superlumination.com.

If the lamps that your talking about are the 4411 (3910/4211-W6) LED Festoon bulb
@ >http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR&keywords=&cart_id=4079951.8573&next=50
The 4411 (3910/4211-W6) lamp is only rated 9 lumens.

The 4210-WHP6 lamps are rated for 66 lumens. Or about > 5250.6 MCD

66/12.57 = 5.25 candelas and 5.25 * 1000 = 5250.6 MCD <-For 4210-WHP6
9/12.57 = .716 candelas and .716 *1000 = 716 MCD <-For 3910/4211-W6

OK, I've read this thread and I'm confused. So...which LEDs do I want if I want a RED and a White in my front overhead "push-on" lights that will be as bright as the original white?

It depends on what you want to do with your E. I plan on using mine for
camping and traveling. If you do allot of night driving the cheeper blue
or red lights are better because you can turn them on without affecting
your night vision much. (Also they look cool):) And there almost as bright as the #4210-WHP6 lamps. But the #4210-WHP6 lamps are brighter than the
white 4411 (3910/4211-W6) lamps. @ least according to the specifications.
listed on there web site.

Another thing, check your your local DMV laws. I think that any other
color other than OEM white is not legal here in So Cal. :( I asked my
cousin who was a police officer if the white white LEDs I had where
legal and he said, "Only if there not turned on while the vehicle is in motion."
Of course if you get a trafic cop or highway patrol officer in a bad mood,
he'll go by the letter of the law.

Here are some pictures of the light from my dome lights.
Digital cameras are not as good as the human eye though.

i've had the white ones in both domes (WHP6), and the map lights (WHP2) too for about 6 months- they're great! good for camping, you can run them continuously for hours and not worry about the battery charge!
i put some 6 led(360 degree cluster with a 194 base) ambers in the front side marker lights, and 2 -1 led white high power units with the 194 base in the tailgate for the licence plate lights. they're much brighter than the incandescants-I'm completely satisfied with them.

Here is the link to the Festoon LEDs.
http://www.superbrightleds.com/festoon.html
This page has the list of colors of the 4211's
http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/festoon.htm

If you want the color white, these lamps are brighter, but there only in white
and they cost more. I think its worth it, the 4211's white lamp is only 9 lumens, 4210-WHP3 is 36 lumens and the 4210-WHP6 is 66 lumens.

The map lamps that Brent Foster are talking about are Part#> 3022-WHP2

There the first ones listed on this page.
http://superbrightleds.com/specs/festoonhp.htm

I'm not shure of the exact size, but the 3022-WHP2 lamps should work.
