AC died while traveling, took it to Sears yesterday to get it looked at. Compressor and freon was ok, compressor had blown a fuse, tech installed a new one which blew also did an electrical check and found that the cooling fan has a short in the motor, disconnected the motor AC works fine. Has anyone had this problem before? In the repair manual the motor looks easy to replace, but I'm wondering could be a problem with the relay that controls it in the fusebox. Thanks for any suggestions.

I think your tech already narrowed your problem down?

If the motor is shorted then it needs to be replaced, The relay could be a problem but if that was shorted and stil left in the system it would most likely burn out the fuse again.

Just replaced that ac fan motor today. Screwed up something with the ac. The job was easy but there is a connector/sensor at the bottom of the fan shroud that came apart. What does this sensor do? I have not been able to find ant information about it.

Sounds like the thermal switch for the radiator, that would more then likely really screw your day up. Time to head to the junk yard with a pair of snips.
