Animal Evacuation from West Kelowna Fire

i wonder why BC Transit could not dispatch buses to help people and their pets

The same thing happens down here when theres is evacuations. They fully ecacuated Big Bear in 03 and a lot of people left their animals here. I stayed here during the fire as I contract with the Forest service working on the fire gensets and there was one owner that left a lot of farm animals just down the street. Finally some volunteers took the animals down the hill.

That's happening now as we speak. Buses are being provided for human evacuees and various rescue organizations (horse, SPCA etc) are involved for the animals. Vernon is pretty full of refugees from the fires right now.

Fortunately, US cities are required to have an evacuation plan for animals and some are actually working on it. I volunteer with an animal diaster rescue group (we took care of over 1,000 animals in Victorville during the Big Bear/San Bernardino fires) and lots of cities have contacted us to help them set up an evacuation plan or at least have a rescue group available to help if needed.

PVR, get ready for a real big thunder storm. We just had about three hours on non-stop thunder and lightning -and the fireworks. It was a very loud flashy sky tonight. And there maybe a few hot burning forests out there somewhere.

Wind was coming from the NE and the lightning started in the NE, above Seymour Mountain, then spread out to the East and then there was a big batch in the SW. I was going to watch the news tonight to hear about it but it's midnight and I just missed it.

We rarely get lightning here and if so it's just a simple flash. This was nothing like I've ever seen here, and the first storm of the year. I hope the rain helps the fires.
