I too have a crack that started with tiny rock hitting my windshield. I've spoken with 2 dealerships in the area and both say Honda will not cover it because there was impact involved.

I've also filed a complaint with NHTSA. Here's what i wrote:

<<My windshield has a tiny 1mm spot where a tiny pebble must have hit it and from that I now have a 18" crack stretching from the lower left hand corner to the center of the windshield. I'm certain that the tiny spot would not have spread into that size of a crack if there wasn't stress placed on the windshield by the "uneven windshield flange surface" that Honda itself admits to on their Service Bulletin 03-028. My Element VIN # falls into the range on the Service Bulletin but Honda will not cover it because of the impact that started the crack. I've had rocks hit other vehicles I've owned and they have NEVER spread into a crack, much less one this size. If Honda Element owners have to replace their windshield everytime a pebble hits it, our insurance companies will end up raising our rates. Honda needs to come to a resolution to this problem. >>

I love my Element and just wish Honda would own up to it and fix the problem. I read other posts where some dealerships are stepping up, but unfortunately that's not the case for us. If anyone else out there has come up with another way to come to a resolution, please share. I've decided to raise my monthly auto insurance payment to do away with my deductible so that future cracks will be covered. I just think it's so unfortunate that we have to think that way.

How much time was it before the small spot and the cracking? Many insurance companies will offer free repair of "bullet-hole" type cracks so they don't have to pay for an entire windshield. Probably you didn't have time to get this done, but it is information for other folks.

Good luck from here on in.

it seemed to be almost immediate. the first foot or so happened right away. by the next morning it grew about 6" but has seemed to slow down considerably. the last 1-2" has taken several days.

i have copied the service bulletin and a few tips i've found on this board. just trying to work up enough nerve to go in to the dealership.

I think if people would just drive with a cracked windshield when Honda
refuse to fix and keep making visits to the dealer lot, they might get
the idea that it would effect their sales. They might be more helpful
if they saw you talking to future buyers and they notice your car.

I think that's a great idea! i've actually considered making a copy of the TSB and a note about my situation, and leaving it on my windshield as i'm out and around town. I'm just not sure if I would get in trouble. Anyone out there know??

I hate to give off the impression that i'm unhappy with my E, because i love it! i just hate the situation with the windshield.

COOCH,
Go to the TOP, get Fukui address, email ect. and let him know that
WINDSHIELDS are THEIR PPOBLEM, IT'S A QUAILY ISSUE!! Phone # Below for HONDA
Good Luck,
Lightship

Tokyo- - Takeo Fukui - New CEO - Need His E-Mail address!
Todays Paper states:
Honda makes quality, not quantity, its Focus
Tokyo- Honda Motor Co. is going to focus on creating quality cars rather
than pursuing quick growth in sales, the new president of Japan's No. 2
aultomaker said Thursday. "I'm not setting sales targets," said Takeo Fukui,
who took office as president and cheif executive last month. He said Honda has no plans to add plants in North America and will concentrate on increasing capacity at its Alabama plant to 300,000 vehicles a year from 150,000 vehicles to meet growing demand.

This is good new, now how do we get his email to let him know Libertyvillle has some serious quality control issues regarding defective glass design, squeeks, etc. Anybody got any ideas? I think the first step is to call Customer Service:

IF YOU HAVE had a windshield crack for any reason and ask for Fukui's email address - in the U.S.A. the phone # is 1-800-999-1009 in Canada it is
888-946-6329. I think this will get corporates attention - and register your complaint while you speak with the representative. !!!!!!!!!!

Like the previous poster stated that their insurance covers 3 windshields per year, well think about it folks at over $500 U.S. per replacement, what do you think the insurance companies will start doing when they connect the dots and determine that they need to raise your rates $500 to $1500 per year because you bought a Honda Element. Honda needs to address this
issue and cover all replacements!

FUKUI is the at the top and that is where we need to start. Let the game begin.
Best of Luck - I ordered my Blue EX 5sp AWD in March and should be delivery by end of this month (July),
