About three months ago, the alternator died while we were driving home, so I replaced it. Battery light remains fixed, but no codes given and alternator and battery both test good. What are other things that the alternator failure might have screwed up that would cause the light to stay on? I removed the negative cable and let it sit 24 hours to see if the light would clear, but no luck.

The ECM controls the voltage regulator in the alternator. The ECM then sends data over the vehicle network to the instrument cluster to tell it whether the battery light should be on or off. It would take detailed testing to determine where the fault lies. If the battery light has been on ever since the alternator was changed then odds are if it is an aftermarket alternator it has the wrong voltage regulator in it.

Wow, I didn't know the alternator could have a wrong voltage regulator in it. It's a carquest alternator.
