Know Your Hawaiian Places?

Yeah, give me a question... still waiting for my Hawaii HEOC sticker...
Okay, but I'll lead this off with a disclaimer. The winner will receive the EOC "Hawaii Chapter" sticker, not the homegrown HEOC sticker...

Here's the new quiz. If you all have been reading through my photo journal in this thread, you can probably guess that despite it's outward appearance, Ka`ena Point is rich in history. In ancient Hawaiian mythology and folklore, the land of Ka`ena (literally translated as "the heat") has always been described as a wild and desolate place.

This limestone formation (shown below) is situated out near the tip of the point. Despite the rail line laid near it's location in the 1890's and the subsequent ravages the land has experienced after decades of abuse, this formation has remained undisturbed.

The first person that can identify this formation by it's Hawaiian name, and can explain it's signifcance, will win the sticker (again, local EOC members only, please).

Alright, as someone who is NOT native hawaiian BUT was born & raised on Oahu, I STILL had to look it up... so yeah I cheated but according to what I read its called "ka leina a ka uhane" meaning “the leap of the soul"...

Sorry, I guess I don't deserve the island chain sticker that SO MANY people display on their vehicles... ainokea... heh heh

Quizzes & Bribes Can't Save This One...

Wow. This ride is falling apart pretty fast... Okay, I guess we'll just see who's left standing in a couple of weeks and we'll take it from there.

Maybe it's just as well, with the weather going into "winter mode" and all...

Still open to going KDogg?

If just You, Aching, and me go that would still be cool. I don't know who else would actually be a "go" on this but if we even get three that would still be cool for me. I know JunG, and Metal is a no go. Not sure about AYF, old blue etc....

Sure. No Problem

Sure, I'm still game - that's why I mentioned we'll see who's left standing in a couple of weeks and we'll take it from there. Doesn't matter how many go. It could be three or thirty - as long as there is interest, I won't mind showing you guys around.

Aching isn't going to make it b/c he mentioned earlier in this thread that he had to watch the store during Thanksgiving weekend, so it would be you, AYF and myself.

Gotta admit though, the weather is turning to crap nowadays. Hope once this current system passes, the weather clears out for a while. If the point gets a good dunking, it's going to take a couple of weeks to adequately dry out.

As of now I'm in, didn't want to "speak" too early in case I cant make it. Hope the weather stays nice.
Okay, is there still interest in this? I was back out there this morning and it's pretty dry. The ground is pretty choppy in places b/c it looks like people have been offroading out there during the rains, but it's okay.

I guess we'll have to see what happens with the weather this coming week. If the current high pressure cell lifts off, it may allow another cold front to drop down and that'll mean rain. If high pressure sticks around, things should be okay.

Let's at least get a head count going for now. ~ Mahalo
