I bought some a01's and a02's and on all of the a02 base plates there is a brown sticky substance in places on the plate and in the edges. Anyone know if this is normal or???? I used one two days ago when changing my oil. Never used one before but I love the nipple thats on the outside of the baseplate! It makes it so muck easyer to screw it on when you cant see where you thread it on. I also really love the rubber gasket! It goes on smooth and easy and I took ot off to see how difficult it was and it came off easily!

But whats the brown stuff??

Some of the filter companys will use a dab of gasket sealor to keep the seal on the filter when you take it off the engine as you don't want to have more then one gasket per customer. A great way to do a 5 QT oil flush or burn up the engine if you don't catch it. The A02 is made by Fram and the A01 is made by Filtech. A better filter then the Fram.
