Bulb question for 2009 owners

It appears that Honda made some changes in the dome and cargo-area lights for 2009. According to the parts pages, the bulb in the 2009 cargo-area light is the same type as the ones in the map lights. That bulb has a base width of 8.5mm or 11/32" (just over 3/8"). Meanwhile the dome light has a new bulb, Honda part #34253-SFE-003 (5W).

I think the new dome-light bulb might be a DE3022 (GE, Sylvania, Wagner) type, also listed as Wagner 13050 and Philips 12818. The critical dimension is the base width, about 7mm or 9/32" (just over 1/4").

If would be great if a 2009 owner would kindly remove the dome-light bulb and compare it to bulbs in an auto parts store. This should confirm or refute my theory. If the bulb matches a different 5W bulb, I'd like to know that part number too.

Thanks!

Hi Dan,

I don't know if this helps but the Osram Sylvania Replacement Guide lists the "map light and trunk/cargo area" bulbs as being DE3175 or 7443.

If I get a chance, when I get home today, I'll pull one out and have a look.

Edit: OK I couldn't help myself, I just pulled the cargo area and dome light bulbs. They are the same size bulb but the base of the cargo area bulb has "8W" stamped on it where the dome light is "5W". I'll get measurements later.

Also, the owners manual lists the dome light for EX and SC as 5W and LX as 8W.

Isn't a 7443 a dual filament bulb normally used for running/brake lights? Seem unlikely they'd use anything other than a festoon bulb in an overhead light.

You are correct, here's the link to Osram Sylvania's replacement guide:http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/LampReplacementGuide/AutoLRG-Results.htm

I guess they're a little confused on those.

OK, I couldn't wait till I got home (eating lunch is over rated anyway). Here's a couple of rough pics of the cargo area bulb. Any help?

1AB JAG, thanks for looking into this.

... cargo area and dome light bulbs. They are the same size bulb
If the dome and cargo bulbs are the same size, 2009 owners can use DE3175 for both, and we can safely ignore the 5W mystery bulb (Honda 34253-SFE-003).

OTOH that blows my theory about the little DE3022 / 13050 / 12818 festoon in the dome. I thought I was onto something because Honda lists two light fixtures (excluding color variations) for 2009: 34252-SCV-A01Z for the dome, and 34252-S5A-003Z for the cargo area light. Why have two different fixtures unless the bulb receptacles are different sizes? Surely you wouldn't need two different parts for bulb ratings as close as 5W and 8W.

For 2003-08, Honda lists the same part for dome and cargo fixtures, 34250-S5P-A01Z. The socket in that fixture accepts the much larger 578 / 212-2 bulb.

the Osram Sylvania Replacement Guide lists the "map light and trunk/cargo area" bulbs as being DE3175 ...
Yes, map and cargo should be the same; that agrees with Honda's bulb listings. But the dome, being a different wattage, should have a different number (7443 is clearly an error). The Osram Sylvania guide doesn't list a number for the 2009 dome-light bulb.

Published sources have listed the wrong bulbs for both the map light and the dome / cargo lights for 2003-08, so I'm distrustful of anything but empirical verification.

You can see the data I've gathered so far here.

BTW what were the other markings on those bulbs?

"BTW what were the other markings on those bulbs?"

Toshiba A12V8W on the cargo area bulb.

The dome light bulb is Toshiba A12V5W.
Thanks.

Unfortunately what I can find on the Toshiba A12V5W indicates that it corresponds to the DE3022 / 13050 / 12818. Did you actually have the bulbs side by side? If so, is it possible you didn't notice the difference between the 7mm and 8mm bases?
I'll measure them with my calipers when I get home.
OK Dan here you go,

The cargo area and map light bulbs are the same: 8W, base 8.5mm, length 30.5mm. Dome light 5W, base 8.5mm, length 30.5mm. So the only difference between them is wattage. Not sure why they would use different watt bulbs but they did.

I too am a first time Honda & E owner, a PMM EX 4AT Nav, and i'm very dissapointed in the way Honda does things. Manual specs show bulbs wattages, not part #'s and no instructions on DIY R&R, except for Head/Tail lights. I normally make a spreadsheet on my Palm with all the part no.'s for the DIY parts like wipers, bulbs, filters, brakes, etc., makes it much eaiser when your in the store. But what I need is how you got the covers off the dome /map light, I want to upgrade them ASAP. Thanks for any help gang!
