I totaled my 2004 E two weeks ago now :-(. 75k on it, major front end damage. Repairs would be 8,500, insurance declared it as a total loss.

I have 2 options

1) Have it rebuilt with the 9,000 dollar payout (11k-2k scrap value). It would take 30 days to rebuild, 8 weeks to retitle after the salvage title was issued>

2) Take the 11,000 and buy another element. Instant gratification.

I found a 2003 EX AWD with 127k on it listed for 6,999. I'd be able to use the leftovers to pay off some of our remodeling costs (wrecked the E on the way home from menards. we closed on our house august 7th) and put the rest away to save up for a newer E.

Advice?

I'd look for an 06 or 07 model, used. It would be an upgrade from the 03 and probably in better condition for a reasonable outlay.

I wouldn't go in hock to get an 09 or 10 unless you had been planning to do so before the accident. .

Are they letting you keep the scrapped vehicle after the payout? If so, part it out and/or sell it to someone to rebuild. Take insurance money plus money you get out of the vehicle and buy a new one.
