Hey guys, long time lurker and first time poster here. Just joined the Element family a few months ago and it looks like I have to replace my rusty front calipers, warped rotors, and get new brakes at the same time. I've tried searching around and looks like oem is pretty expensive. I saw a couple threads here and some youtube about using Acura TSX or RSX Brake kits as they are upgrades and plug right in, but didn't see any actual model numbers or links to the items so not too sure about buying those. Are they any good? Much appreciate it if someone can give me some guidance on what to get. Just looking for good quality parts for not over $250 for the front side

Typically at the same strength, steel doesn't need to be as thick as aluminum. And as a 20+ ASE certified auto tech I can say that steel wheels are not as thick as alloy wheels. So it would stand to reason, assuming that the steelies use the same tire diameter, that there would probably be more brake clearance than with an alloy wheel. If I had to guess, maybe a 1/4" total.

Anybody confirm that the TSX rotors won't fit in the E's spare tire(donut)?

I just ordered some. If they don't, reckon I need to start carrying 2 scissor jacks inside my E.

When it comes to the spare, do the obvious, get a spare from a tsx. And I will echo an earlier comment, unless your using a full size wheel as a spare, the modern spares are intended to be used at low speed to limp you to a shop to get the tire fixed. If you’re driving on a spare for 50 miles and/or over 30 mph you ARE asking for trouble.

So I went ahead and upgraded the front brakes to bigger and better RSX style with slotted rotors. Appreciate the massive help by fellow forum member Pseudo-Si (also here in Houston) who did majority of install along with bleeding my brakes. Only issue was they are a tight fit and calipers were...

Some are refinished well and others are rusty under the paint. Kind of hard to know what you'll get sometimes with those companies, but Powerstop is usually decent.
