Has anyone measured the length & width of the available cargo areas with seats down (i.e. behind the rear seats), up against the sides, and seats removed?

I'm trying to figure out if I can fit two LX200 Telescope cases (JMI cases, if anyone can relate), tripods, and accessories in the back and still leave seating room for driver & two passengers. These are not small telescopes!

Planning, ever planning.

Thanks.

Sorry, I have never measured it. If you are still about and haven't given up, I'll get the measurements for you.

To let you know. With one back seat fliipped on the side, and the front seat layed back, I can get a 9'2'' surfboard in. It goes over the dash.

The other day we went out of town to go camping/other stuff. I fit a road bike in (standing up). A toddler in carseat. A wife. Myself. Camping stuff: A tent, 2 sleeping bags, lantern, blah blah blah. 2 suitcases. A full rack of climbing gear. A laptop. A real backpacking backpack. A day pack. And some other junk. I even brought a silly ski hat so I could look like that guy in the element ad :p

Keith

PS: What is funny... is we ended up not camping. We dropped off our kid, parked the Element downtown, then used it as a base for changing clothes for a full day in Austin (museum, theatre, out to eat, 6th street clubbing...)

PPS: Mars will be in great opposition come summer! :) Yeeha!

Thanks for the offer. But my Element arrived today, and it's in my garage! So, I've obviously committed myself now.

Heading to the desert on the 21st, telescopes in tow, to spend two days with a bunch of geology undergrads. Let's hope all goes well with the Element & observing (which is secondary to their field trip).

I was measuring the cargo area last night for the rubber floor mat I made to cover the entire cargo area. The bad thing about the cargo area is that it's wider in the rear and at the side doors than the middle. The safest measurement to use to make certain that everything will fit including yourself 8) is 42" wide by 65.5" deep. The widest areas of the rear are 44" and if the can scoot whatever you are carrying "under" the front seats a bit, you can call the depth 68". However, if the item is more than a few inches tall you'll want to use the 42" x 65.5" figures.

A nine foot surfboard fits in the E, if you lay the front passenger's seat flat, fold the seat behind it up against the window, and put the board's nose on the dash. And you can still see the passenger-side mirror.
