Hi-2010 Element EX AWD. Had a catalytic converter shield installed, and the shield is secure. However, the catalytic converter vibrates against it, and the exhaust system rattles against the converter shield when I start it. Also, the exhaust noise is much "throatier" due to the catalytic converter vibrating in the shield. Has anyone else run into this, and if so, what did you do to quiet it down? Thanks so much! some shields have adjustable clearances. If yours doesn’t, look to see how worn your exhaust hangers are. Perhaps new ones will lift things higher away from the shield.

What shield brand did you buy? I installed myself the Aerogenics cat shield (front, middle and rear panels) on my 2010 Element EX FWD. My cat is an aftermarket unit. I had to lower the rear panel to clear the exhaust hanger. I have no clearance, rattles, or exhaust noise issues. I sprayed it with a high temp flat black engine paint to conceal the aluminum finish. I originally purchased a Miller Cat shield, but it wouldn't line up with the aftermarket cat. Hope this helps...

I had the same issue with my Cat Security shields on both of our elements. Replacing the exhaust hangers took care of 95% of it. I am guessing fresh motor mounts would take care of the rest but that is a more expensive proposition.

There is also just a general increase in exhaust sound in the cabin even when things aren't rattling.
