I have a 2003 E EX that I bought used about 6 months ago at 136k miles. About a month into driving it, cruising down the highway, the check engine light turned on. A friend said that I should tighten the gas cap. I did and it stayed on. I took it into the local JiffyLube a couple days later and they said that the gas cap needed to be replaced (seals were worn). I did that. Easy. Glad to be adventuring with no worries again. Now, the CEL comes on almost every other week. Every time I take it to a JiffyLube type place and there are usually 2 codes that come out: one to tighten the gas cap, and one about the battery voltage. The battery voltage code may read that the battery voltage is high or low. Everytime, at my request, they test the voltage of the battery and the alternator. Every single time, the voltage has been normal. They're both fine. Does anyone have any idea if there's a sensor or something that could be triggering the CEL so much, specifically the battery voltage warning? Also, last time the CEL came on, it read out a third code about the speed sensors in the left side tires not working. Is that something to worry about/replace? My odometer works fine. He's at 142k miles now.
Side note: He runs amazing. I love him to death. I've had him in my mechanic's and the local Honda dealership numerous times for body repairs and every single time, they do a once-over and there is absolutely no mention of a potential battery/alternator problem. They say he's great to enjoy for many more miles.
*The only engine work he's had done is an oil change (and soon a steering fluid change). I've never heard, seen, or smelled anything funny.
*I've had to jump him twice (first time: accidently left him idling too long for light while fixing a window. second time: accidently left a light on overnight). Neither time triggered a CEL.
