My sister-in-law has a 16" set of wheels/snow tires left from trading in her 2003 Acura TL. I think that the steel rims will fit my '05 Element EX AWD based on what I understand from the Tire Rack website but that the tires (205-60-16) won't work. Is this correct and if so, is it worth the $ and hassle just to ship steel rims? Thanks in advance for your insights/suggestions.

Steve W.

the tires will fit. I think the original on the E are 205/70/16.

the 10mm difference is the sidewall height, which will result in a little less MPG, but not much (maybe 1 mpg).

I think the wheels are the same dimensions as the OEM ones for the E. The wheels should be 16x6.5 and you can put wider tires if you choose to do so..

The 205/60 tire is a full 2 inches smaller in overall diameter than the stock E 215/70 set-up. :| 25.7 inches v.s 27.8 inches.

(not the .4 inches/10mm as was suggested  )

Thats about an 8% speedo error and equivalent 8% higher final gear ratio . . . I wouldn't do it. ;-)

I would however take advantage of what sounds like free steelies !! Have tires dismounted and ship the rims ? ($$ =?)

Wheels/Tires

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll go ahead and ask her to ship them with the tires. Hopefully, I'll be able to dismount and resell the snow tires here to make up the shipping costs. Seem reasonable? SWW

Your OD with the 225/45's is around 25 inches ? Just curious, what RPM are you turning at 60 mph ? Seems like everybody here wishes for the opposite effect . . . lower RPM at cruising speeds. :)

You are probably looking at a 10 % speedo error and gearing delta, so 60-61 mph at 55mph (actual) sounds about right. (don't forget to take the 10% hit on the odometer reading when calculating MPG . . . lol . . . that would be cheating ;) )

its hitting about 3200 RPM...I dont know about the 10% part of it, but i know that Im getting about 20 MPG on the highway..

But im getting new rims and tires soon, so my MPG's will be back up..

The new ones:
15x8, (hopefully) -13mm offset, and 225/70/15 tires

Im waiting on 12MPGlol to confirm that he has the same dimensions on his wheels, but mine will look the same. Not to copy him, but I really love that style. I had them before, like in my avatar pic, but I had to run spacers in the front, and I couldnt drive faster than 70 mph, without excessive steering wheel vibration...
