Just got off the phone with my dealer (who called me!) about the status of my on-order Element. He says that the factory tells hime they won't be building AWD 5speed Elements until late June through mid July.

My GG EX 4wd 5sp is being, or has been, built this week, so he isn't correct. However, they seem to have a slow production rate for the 5sp and I know that if the ones ordered now will not be built until August or so.

I just picked up my SMM EX 4WD 5-speed today (friday the 13th... ). It has been on order since March, and it seemed at times like it was never going to happen. The order was kicked back by the factory twice, but we kept resubmitting it, and it finally arrived.
I have to say that the dealer was great, and they kept me updated on the progress(or lack thereof) of my E the whole time. I almost gave up once, and went in thinking that I might as well look at the automatics. I had a group of salesmen surrounding me, asking all about my plans for the E (I show dogs) and they all convinced me NOT to buy one of the more expensive automatics that were sitting on the lot, and to wait for the car that I really wanted. I'm so glad that I did!

A 5sp awd EX is what I am looking for. Has anyone found these already at their dealers or through locating them at other dealers? Or are they on "order only" now?

I won't have time to wait since my lemon law will be settled within a matter of weeks and the manufacturer is taking my other car back. I'll need to have my E when the other is ready to go.

Just wondering if they are already out there somewhere.

bexter,

There are some 5spd EX 4WD's on the dealer lots already. We have only delivered one so far and only have one on-order. The availability is certainly limited, but don't let this discourage you. If that is truly what you desire, then patience will pay off. Unless you have a definite need for a vehicle now. You might even be able to find one on the lots now. PM me with more information and I'll see if I can help you find one or direct you towards the right person.

FYI, when I picked up my Element yesterday, the dealer was really proud that they had a "side air bag, 4WD, 5 sp EX in Galapagos Green". They said it was the only one in NE Ohio. Of course, they had already loaded it up with every bolt-on option, which is standard procedure for really hard to get cars that aren't pre-orders.

I was hoping to hear something like that. I live in Southern Ohio and was hoping the "home field advantage" might help.

Supamann, we are supposed to hear back from Kia by the end of this week about the re-purchase of our Sedona. Once we get and accept an offer from them, we are going to work on finding the right Element. I might have as much as a month before they take the Sedona back, it might be less than that. Once the offer is finalized, I'll have a better time table.

My dream would be either a SOP or GG 5sp EX w/ side air bags. The only extras I have to have are keyless entry and side steps. Anything else is fine but but necessary.

My dealer has said they should be able to locate what I want in short order, but it seems this might be a tall order. Wish me luck.

Let me know what they say. My dealer (Hidy Honda in Beavercreek) looked like crazy, but with no luck.

Who's your dealer?

Ack! It's awful to hear that you actually had a certifiable lemon car. What a nightmare! Makes me ever so glad I didn't go with the Kia Sorrento. It looked like a sweetie, but Kia's not terribly established yet. Someday they'll be great. And besides, you know, I was meant for an Element.

I hope you and your E will find each other soon, and you'll be driving with the only lemon being one in your iced tea!

Several EX 4wd 5spd models available in the Baltimore, metro area. Test drove an SOP 5spd EX 4wd on Sat. Have your dealers call around and "deal". That's what they're supposed to do for you if they want you to buy a car there. My guy called dealers 5 states away and was ready to drive a car to a dealer in Ohio to trade for the EX I got. But, I told him I wanted to order mine (wanted less than 20 miles on the ticker when I picked it up, ya know?). Just the fact he was willing to do that impressed me...

[quote:c8328ce065="3N00B"]can i ask what options and what price you got out of em?[/quote:c8328ce065]

I'm getting a GG EX 4wd 5sp - no other options. I paid $910 below MSRP (19600 + tax & title). Built between 6/10 and 6/14 and should be delivered 6/20 or so (can not wait).

BTW, I live in the L.A. area and most of the dealers out here have caught on to how limited the production of Ex 4wd 5sp are and seem to want to wait it out for the top bidders (e.g. those who will pay couple grand over invoice).

Hi Reedpc: I have been talking with Andy's Honda/Toyota in Portsmouth for a couple months actually. We were torn back in April between an E or a Sedona. I really wanted the E, but hadn't seen any crash test ratings yet and decided to go with the van. Since we've started the lemon law proceedings, Andy's has been really nice without saying "I told you so." They claim to be able to find what I want, but doubt that they've really looked yet. Since Portsmouth is such a small market, I've heard they do tend to try and locate exactly what you want. Several friends who have bought from them have not been disappointed. I've put a call through to the manager and am anxious to hear what he can find.

Hellcat: Don't pity me too much. :) If this van hadn't turned out to be a lemon, I would still be driving it and not looking for my E. This lemon suit has given me a few months to see some of the E's safety ratings and give me some more time to do my homework. It has been pretty yucky, though. THe van has 2100 miles on it and the problems started at 1100. The dealership has had it way longer than I have. The thing that stinks is I really like the Sedona, but don't feel comfortable keeping it. I have no confidence in it at all anymore.

Luckily, this lemon law thing will take several weeks and hopefully I can find what I really want before I give the Sedona back.

I heard back from Andy's yesterday. He found 6 AWD 5sp EX w/ side airbags...3 on the ground and 3 on order. He's yet to check and see if they are up for relocation, but he said they are out there. If you don't mind a couple hour drive down from Dayton, give them a call reed. Tim is the manager and since they have such a small inventory, they do a lot of locating. His number is 740-354-3255.

I hope to have him work on getting mine next week.
