Locking Gas Cap Disassembling (with photos)
A few days ago I got my Honda Locking Gas Cap. The first thing I did was slip the cylinder into the cap BEFORE re-keying it for ignition key :-(. I just didn’t know it would be locked inside forever.
I didn’t like the idea of using 2 keys (one for ignition, another for gas cap) so I searched this forum for a help. People said that nothing can be done. No way to get the lock out...
But as you know, impossible takes a little longer
Finally I've found the way how to re-key Honda Locking Gas Cap AFTER you insert the lock cylinder into the cap.
Here is a step-by-step instruction how to disassemble a Locking Gas Cap to get the lock out.
Step 1.
Here we go
Step 2
Use a flat screwdriver
Step 3
Don't worry, it is unlikely you break something. The plastic is soft and flexible.
Step 4
The rest of the process is trivial
Step 5
Step 6
Press this latch to take the cylinder out
Step 7
Voila! You've done it!
Now you can follow the standard re-keying procedure described on this forum.
