If I want my Henry to ride in the back seat, not the back cargo compartment, I'm wanting to get him a comfy dog bed for the seat. I might get him something cushy for the floor board too, giving him seating options, but for that I would probably just go with a folded up blanket.

I want something with some good soft padding for his old bones, and a zip off cover to wash if it smells doggy.

LL Bean is selling these for a lovely $50 and up! Ouch!! :shock:

Has anyone who sews ever made a dog bed? Do you have any pattern to recommend? How about materials? A soft sort of fleece or berber would be very comfy, wouldn't it? Foam? Fiberfill? Feathers? Cedar stuff that repels fleas?

I can't sew but I wouldn't impose upon a friend unless I was armed with a pattern, the proper materials and some $.

Any help for me or should I just shell out dough to Bean?

Get a nice big movers blanket - these are rugged and can be purchased at Home Depot.

Put 4 holes in one end and insert the head rests through the holes and into the seats sandwiching the blanket end. Using metal grommets for the holes would be super-cool.

Drape the remaining fabric all the way down to the floor and secure with a bungee cord all the way around the seat creases.

This should secure everything, keep it hair-free and provide a couch and a floor mat for your pooch. Bonus: just pull it out and throw it in the wash when it gets gross.

I don't know if you ever get to a TJ Maxx or Marshalls, but they both have very cool dog beds in their home sections with the toss pillows....when I was there the other day they had a bunch marked down....very high quality plus some great fabrics, some funkie, some traditional....you might be able to snag a good bargin for Henry! (also this may give you another excuse to take Lucy out!!!!)

I don't know if you have a Costco near you, but they always have dog beds that are reasonably priced. Usually less than $20. I buy them for my very large dog (150lbs.) and he uses them until they are worn out, then I just buy a new one.

Mover's blanket - cool! And I ordered orange bungee so, yeah, I can do that.

TJMaxx, Marshall's, Costco or Sam's - also cool.

This is my first post, so be gentle with me
I've had my E for a week and just LOVE this message board.
Regarding dog beds, I shop thrift shops and yard sales and I keep an ample supply of used comforters on hand for which I pay from approx 3 to 5 bucks each. I use these for dog beds - as soon as they're covered with fur or soiled beyond my tolerance, I throw it away and get out another clean comforter. It's cheaper than washing them at the laundromat (when you have two big dogs and have to use that giant washer).
