Anybody got one of these? I just ran into it at Crutchfield but couldn't find much about how to install it on a Honda.

The desciption on Crutchfield..

"Through the special E-iSERV website from Eclipse, you can download software that enables factory steering wheel remote operation of the CD5030. This software is burned to a CD-R and imported into the receiver. Two wires (brown/black and brown) in the supplied wiring harness need to be connected to factory wiring in order for steering wheel remote commands can operate."

I checked out the manual and their vehicle table on the website and couldn't make much sense of it.

For the Hondas it just says "STEERING1 - *1 STEERING2 - NC GND - *1 " ... "NOTE *1 Please consult with an installation professional for correct connections."

With the Toyota it actually showed you with pin to connect the wires to.

I'm cross referencing some stuff here now but it's pretty late and I'm getting more and more confused reading about resistor mods and what not.

Seems like a nice HU if the steering controls work.

EDIT

Wasn't aware they have this feature in a majority of their models. Was wondering why nothing came up in the searches... going back to search with other model numbers then.

hook the brown/black on the new radio harness to green/red pin 3 of the element harness, hook the brown to to brown in the element harness pin 14. proceed with instructions on programming. you may have to put a 1k resistor in there in series with one of the wires if it doesnt learn the first time with just the wires hooked up.
Nice! Yeah I was just reading from the PAC website ... and from your reply everything makes sense now.

Now to get through Christmas shopping and see what's leftover for this stuff.
Hey Yoda thanks for the wiring tips. I ended up having to connect the Brown wire from pin 14 to the radio ground (as instructed by eclipse tech support) Its working except the buttons are backwards. Vol up and down controls track fowarding (only) and radio scan backwards (only). CH button controls Volume up and Mode controls Volume down. Unable to reprogram through the head unit. Anyways I can live with that.. just thought I'd give you an update (or anyone else that's thinking about installing this head unit)

I'm wondering if you're able to give me some insight to an issue I'm having with the unit. It's been pretty cold here and when I initially turn the stereo on none of the buttons respond. It defaults to the radio and it plays. I'm able to change the volume with the control knob and the steering wheel controls, but none of the buttons register when I press them. No guide tones or anything. But after about 8 minutes or so the buttons slowly come back to being functional. Meaning I'll press a button and it'll work. I press it again and nothing.. press it several times more and they start to respond .. then the head unit operates as normal. It's almost as though the unit needs to warm up because of the cold weather. This can't be normal right? Could a bad installation cause this?

I ordered from Crutchfield so if its a faulty unit they'll pay for return shipping but I'd like to be able to fix it myself (if it's installation error) so I don't have to hassle with sending it back.

Thanks for your time

Checked the connections today and everything appears to be A OK. Called Crutchfield to let them know the issue and they're just going to send out another unit with a return shipping label. Glad I ordered from them... hopefully it's just the faceplate so I don't have to pull the main unit out.
correct me if i am wrong, but i believe that stereo allows bluetooth audio streaming. Can anyone confirm?

I have a Motorola Droid, and am looking at replacing my head unit with one that allows bluetooth music streaming.
I haven't tested it out yet. But the specifications indicates a2dp support. It had an option to turn Bluetooth audio on in the headunit. I'll post back after I check it out.

sure does. I use it with my HTC Eris with no problems. Even better, you can plug your phone into the USB jack for charging and playback of content on your memory card with headunit control. Very sweet.
awesome - that is a very cool feature, and will probably be ordering one today.

time to search on taking out the factory head unit.

thanks again
also - if you order the eclipse HU off of crutchfield right now, you also get the ipod connector, wiring harness, and dash kit for free.

I paid $250 for everything - I ordered yesterday and it should be here tomorrow :)
So i installed the Eclipse 5030 last night. This morning, I turned my car on, and none of my dash lights work. I think i blew a fuse??? But it was too cold outside to look :)
Did it work last night? Did you tape off any unused wires? I'd double check all the connections.
no - i made the mistake of tying in the illumination wire in with the constant.

took out the head unit this morning, removed the illumination wire... then had replace the fuse for the gauge panel. Oh well, you live and learn.

Now I get to set up the Bluetooth and position the microphone. So far, i'm impressed.
So how's everything running for you so far? I've had minor glitches with the original and replacement units. The first one: The screen would blank out sometimes when I goto the playlist menu. The music will still play and the screen is blank, it comes back after like a 1 second or two.

The replacement unit: Sometimes.. very rare.. when playing mp3s on my iphone, I turn the volume up/down the screen whites out for a split second. But I think that might be the iphone glitching with the unit.... since the iphone sucks. (yeah, I said it)

I'm gonna try to work out this whole steering wheel control fiasco. If I can't I'm sending everything back. Its a shame because I really like this unit.

Let me know how it's working out for ya...
The head unit itself is really nice, but there are a couple annoyances with it.

1st - I have my ipod connected. I usually listen to my ipod, but i have found that it does not remember the last thing I was listening too. So every time I turn my car on, it defaults to the radio. Kind of annoying, but meh, i'm over it.

2nd - I cannot get my phone book to download from my droid via bluetooth.

However, the sound qualtiy is very good, and the bluetooth audio works very well.

Hello everyone I don't actually own a Honda but I do like them :) But I was doing research on the unit I recently purchased at a pawnshop the Eclipse CD5030 but I use an Droid the LG Optimus One and yes when the power is off it starts over from scratch but I being a PC geek tossed all my songs on to a 8GB USB Thumbdrive (16GB ones are about $16 now so no worries there.) and when I turn on my car and go back over an hour later (Leaving the drive plugged in the USB plug) and pop back in the front panel turn on the car and away i go like I never left my car plays right from the second it turned off.
