Okay, Justin and I have been talking and planning a Fall campout and trail ride at my barn. Justin is on vacation beginning October 30th, he'll travel down to the Ranch on the 29th.

So the weekend dates are pretty set in stone: October 30th thru November 1st, 2009.

So, I board at Secret Passage Ranch that sits between the Shenandoah and Massanutten Mountain Ranges. They have a Facebook as well, so check them out on FB and see trail pictures and event pictures.

There is NO electric hook-ups, it's all tent camping and for those who wish to stay inside, there is a bunkhouse with 3 bedrooms and 4 baths, full kitchen, 2 living rooms, a back deck and a front porch.

Once I get confirmation on numbers, I can get with my Barn Owner and get prices for both the Trail and Bunkhouse rentals. Typically, an hour of trail ridding is $30, but there might be a large group discount.

Here are directions:

FROM WASHINGTON, DC
Take I-66 West towards Front Royal. Exit I-66 at Exit #6 (Front Royal). Turn left off the ramp onto 340 south. Cross the river and turn right at the light onto Route 55 west (John Marshall Highway). Go 5.1 miles to Waterlick. Turn left onto VA-678 (Fort Valley Road). Drive 7 miles, going through the George Washington National Forest. Look for Secret Passage Ranch on your left. Go to the red barn!

FROM RICHMOND
Take I-95 north toward Washington, DC. Take Exit #133 (US-17 towards Warrenton). Turn left on to US-29 (BR-North), turn left onto Broadview Avenue. Stay straight to go onto US-17 (BR North) which turns into US-17 North. Turn left. Enter I-66 and go west towards Front Royal. Exit I-66 at Exit #6 (Front Royal). Turn left off the ramp onto US-340 South.

FROM HAGERSTOWN & POINTS NORTH
Take I-81 South towards Winchester. Proceed past Winchester and get off I-81 at Exit #298 (Strasburg). Turn left off the exit on to US-11 south toward Strasburg. Once in town, turn left at the light onto VA-55 East (John Marshall Highway) and go about 5 miles. You will come to Waterlick. Turn right on to VA-678 (Fort Valley Road). Drive 7 miles, going through the George Washington National Forest. Look for Secret Passage Ranch on your left. Go to the red barn!

FROM STAUNTON & POINTS SOUTH
Take I-81 North towards Winchester. Get off I-81 at Exit #296 (Strasburg / VA 55). You are on VA-55 (John Marshall Highway). Turn right off the exit and proceed two miles to US-11 SouthTurn right. Once in town, turn left at the light, continuing on VA-55 East, and go about 5 miles. You will come to Waterlick. Turn right on to VA-678 (Fort Valley Road). Sounds fun What is the dog policy?
I wish I could say doggies would be welcome, but the Ranch boasts 3 Australian Cattle Dogs; Blue (Momma), Hoka (alpha male), and Hedda and they aren't exactly dog friendly and they have run of the Ranch. They are used to work both the horses and the cattle.

Mel, I hope that doesn't exclude you, I'd love to see you again!!

Camping will take place right on the Ranch.

There is a strong stream, Passage Creek that runs through the Ranch and there is already an area set up for campers by the Stream.

It's sorta in the front pasture of the Ranch, but it's got a bonfire pit and we can set up several little campfires using the river rock and wood provided by the Ranch.

I'll get pictures this week and post them to the forum for all to see. :D

UPDATE: Pictuers and Pricing

Okay, since I can't update my original Post in this thread, I am having to post it here.

Here is the link to the Bunkhouse. The pricing plan for that is as follows: $200 a night for the entire house; that includes the use of the Kitchen as well. There are 3 bedrooms in the house, a front and back porch and 2 living rooms. The rooms individually are priced as $75 a night for the large room with a jetted tub and stand up shower. The 2 smaller rooms are $50 a night.

Riding will include a lesson for anyone who wants it and will be unlimited at $40 a day.

Initially I had said the campsite down by the creek was free, but in order to offset the cost of a port-a-john, it will be $5 a night. And the following are a few photos of the front pasture where we'll be.

You'll come across the concrete bridge and turn left and come through the red gate.

This is the bonfire area and just behind it is the stream and a good spot to set a few tents up.

This is the good area for a few tents. All this feild will be moved prior to y'all arriving.

Justin dear, you can sleep in anything you want too. Tent or E, it does not matter.

Okay, here the plan for Saturday evening dinner. I enjoy cooking over an open fire, so I am planning a roast with potatoes, carrots and onions. I'll be making bread over the fire as well as a dessert over the fire. So, we should have a good time.

Is anyone seriously interested in this?????

Hey, not to be a pisser, but is anyone seriously interested in this event? If not, Justin and I are gonna have a GREAT time and I'll even rent out the Bunkhouse for us that weekend and do all the cooking. :D

Please, if there is at all any interest, please let me or Justin know. I realize it's only the end of August and this event is planned for the end of October, but it would be nice to to set down some real plans for food and entertainment as well.

I'll post a video this weekend of the road leading to the Ranch, it's PERFECTly curvy and damn near able to give The Dragon a run for it's money.
