After about a month of receiving nothing but "wow"s and "cool"s from people noticing my new Satin Silver Element, I got my first insult yesterday. Was driving out of a parking lot, and passed a man and a woman. As I passed she said "Ohhhhhhh uuuuuuggggggggglllllyy." Oh well - she probably drives some generic Camry or something. (I consider Camrys to be the polar opposite of everything I like about the Element...the most boring car on earth.) :)

I received as a gift a hand made 1/10 th scale model of sorts out of cardboard the day after I got it. Most people think it is beautiful even though some say it looks like a box. Lately they refered me to a Saturn ad.

We have fun with it... It corners great, too.

One day I was sitting in my E, when my co-workers walked by and said that thing's neat but gawd its ugly. About that time i looked out the window and they got highly embarassed. To each their own, but i still get stares and gawks every day.

There is a post on the Yahoo boards that sums up my thoughts well on this. It says that this car is for leaders, not sheep.

I mentioned the E at a family dinner last week and was nearly laughed out of the room. Then again, my family is white-bread, middle America, etc. I do love them, but I'm a writer and they know I am different. I'm not telling anyone when I get my E, I'm just gonna show up with it and watch their faces change color. Won't that be hilarious?!

I drove a Gold Taurus over the weekend, and after leaving a mall - I was greeted by so many Gold Sedans it took me 10 minutes to find the one I was driving.

The 4 door sedan (Camry types) are for accountants with tape holding their glasses together in the middle.

I got my Element last night and drove it to work today. Spent half the day in the parking lot answering questions. Most folks said it looked like a baby Hummer or a really big Mini.

Of course, our parking lot is filled with Mini's, TT's, Range Rovers, Civic Si's, 2002 Thunderbirds and all sorts of other vehicles that express some individuality, so maybe the Element fits right in with the crowd!

Gosh where do you work?! Our parking lot is 70% Dodge minivans and other 29% plain-old cars and UTEs. (We have a lot a family-oriented people here).

At first I got the ugly thing, but now people are waving me down on the street to look at it. I had a guy at a mall parking lot waiting for me to come out so he could talk to me about it. Once people see the inside and how big it is, they change their minds.

[quote:4cff25b980="HansBlix"]Terrible that you have those dreaded "family-oriented" people working with you, droidan. How do you do it?[/quote:4cff25b980]

I assure you, I don't have anything against family oriented people. I was just commenting how our parking lot lacks the same excitement, well, that is until I bought my Element!
