not sure if any of you are interested. but i think it was a cool mod.

buy a 2007 acura TL key, then buy a rdx faceplate (no trunk option) and get them to laser cut it at honda. Then bring all of your keys you own (including the flip key) to honda and have them reprogram them all together (100 bux approx)

full project price for me (cause i dont know anyone at THIS honda dealership) was around 150.

Could you just by the RDX key and would it be compatible?
I would think just an RDX key would work, unless the RDX key is not a flip key.
If the RDX key is not a flip, could we just use the faceplate off our normal keyless remote from honda?

That's really great, I was dissapointed to see that the Element didn't come with one already. Now I can get one! Thanks for posting this!

Ok, I found some 2007 TL remotes on eBay for ~$30, but they come in two flavors "memory 1" and "memory 2". Does it matter which one we get to use with the Element?

I can't seem to find any rdx faceplates, are there any other sources besides going to the local dealership? Which I'll have to do anyways to get the key cut.

edit: see post 10 for the eBay link

I checked these. These are just the key fobs/remotes. These are not the switchblade key with the built in remote.

Mr. Repost....if you could give more info on resources and how to put the two key parts together....you'd have a great DIY thread.

Let us know. :D

I like this key mod! I contacted the local Acura Dealer to inquire about keys and faceplates. The TL Key would cost approximately $90, which includes cutting the key and (Acura) programming. The RDX key would cost approximately $65. Not sure about the faceplate. If the TL key would work, why need the RDX faceplate?

I am guessing, but I think the element shares the same blank as the tl.

The tl and rdx share same remote body.

The rdx face doesn't have a trunk button, same as the element.

So I think just the tl remote would work but have one useless button

We do have 3 buttons.....one is a panic button. Couldn't you program the trunk button to work as a panic??
I would agree. And if that doesn't work, you have one extra button. I could care less if I had an extra button on the remote that did nothing. All I need is lock and unlock. The panic is fun in crowded parking lots, especially when theres people walking near your E.

I may check out the keys at a local dealership this weekend. If I could get a TL key, who cares about the extra button. Maybe it could be programmed for the Element rear hatch only. Or if that did not work, I would just paint the button black to match the cover.

Ok I talked to the guy selling these at peoria acura (lance). He said that the mem 1 and mem 2 doesnt apply to us since we dont have memory seats. So he said that we would only need to buy the cheaper of the to.However he did say taht the cutting and reprogramming is about $130 at his dealership. Mr repost how much did you par for the cut and prog?
