I hadn't considered the plastic and wax issues and I'm glad they've been discussed here.

I am a scratch over 40 and not really into the hand washing and waxing thing. I want my car to look great, but I also know I have limitations.

I guess I'm looking at having it detailed by hand every few months, and going to the car wash bay myself inbetween, and washing/waxing it with the wand pointed AWAY from the plastic.

Do you think that would work? or would it inevitably spray the plastic some?

[quote:1e75f87e86="lon777"]Hellcat - If you're not into that "wash and wax aerobics", then what you got planned is a very good idea. I've seen some hand and machine wax jobs that are absolutely beautiful. On the other hand, if you want to try washing and waxing your car, try looking at the string called "tried new products" in this section written by moi. Have Fun![/quote:1e75f87e86]

You know, now that I've actually been thinking about this, I kind of *like* the idea of hand washing and waxing and detailing it.

I guess I have a prejudice about this because of my life history. The very first job I ever had, when I was just a skinny teenaged Hellkitten, was washing, waxing and detailing cars for my father's car lot. My dad sold vintage Mercedes and other foreign cars and I'd wash, wax, vacuum, shampoo, polish the chrome, treat the leather and rubber, and remove the real wood pieces for stripping and refinishing. This was for $20 a car for the cars on his lot, $40 a car for customers, of which Dad kept $10. That was all the money in the world to a teenage girl, but it was also serious hard work. In the scorching Texas summer I'd get up at 5 in the morning and be done by 11, then spend the rest of the day at the pool.

They say we come full circle in life sometimes. Maybe this is my time to revisit the special pleasures of car detailing. :D
